| taking new pup on 9 hour trip. yikes well the timing isnt ideal. I get my pup this thurs. 6-22-06. I have to go to Oregon on the 1st of July. My pup will still be getting used to her new home and family. she'll be 11.5 weeks old when I have to go to Oregon. Your not suposed to take your dog outside until they are 4 months old at least from what I hear. I would like advise on what to do. The trip is pretty important. But I dont want to do any damage to my pup. |

| I highly recommend he stays with the breeder until you return . . .the trip is way too long for a puppy, especially when he is trying to settle into the new home. |

| I took buddy on a weekend trip at 8wks old. He did not want to be in his crate and curled up on my lap and slept happily for the three hour trip. I take him with me all over town to make sure he stays used to the car. I would take him.

| we take both our pups to LA for a weekend to visit my parents (2 hour car ride)...only choice, I prefer not to. Most of the time, they sleep thru but it seems like they do not care for the extreme heat, can get car sick if in the crate during car ride...also, it seems like the new environment stresses them out...our 3 month old seems 'stressed' out and will not eat or poop/pee for the first 1/2 day and that stresses me out.

| I think the little one would be okay. However, I would recommend that he stay with the breeder if that's an option. This way he is safe & in a comfortable environment & you can start out fresh when you get back from your trip. I don't know about you but long trips tend to stress me out & if you are worring about the puppy on top of that it won't be good for you or the pup.

| Bailey got use to long car trips right from the beginning. There was the 12 hour drive from the breeders (we live in Northern Canada so flying wasn't an option) and the another one about four weeks later and another 2 months after that. We leave her crate open so she usually will sleep in there. We make frequent stops and always have a water dish available. I guess it all depends on what your pup is accustom to.
