Bailey got use to long car trips right from the beginning. There was the 12 hour drive from the breeders (we live in Northern Canada so flying wasn't an option) and the another one about four weeks later and another 2 months after that. We leave her crate open so she usually will sleep in there. We make frequent stops and always have a water dish available. I guess it all depends on what your pup is accustom to.
