| New with questions Hello, My husband and I have fallen in love with Yorkies and would like to adopt a new baby in the fall. We've been doing some research on the net and ran across the site. Its very informative! We currently have two indoor cats, a dachshund that is indoor/outdoor and a Springer who is outdoors. No kids other than our four legged ones! Our cats will probably mostly ignore the puppy other than an occasional hissing (they are both declawed). But we are curious about how others have been able to introduce their Yorkie when the cats "owned the house" first. When we do get a Yorkie, our dachshund will likely have to transition to just outside. He is a sweetheart to us and is always good around his other cat and dog family members but he can be aggressive with strangers and we're unsure about he'll react to a new puppy. He enjoys being outside more than inside any way. We'll just have to play it by ear. We have always had springers and dachshunds. I've read several posts about how expensive it is to care for a yorkie. I realize their grooming will be more extensive than with our current furbabies, but are there other considerations as well (as far as being more expensive than our current babies)? Also, several breeders I have come across have mentioned in their contracts that they only guarantee their yorkies as pets and not for show or breeding. We have no intention to show or breed but is this a bad sign as far as the quality of their pups? The part about showing doesn't bother me as much as the statement about breeding. I guess I've written enough for my 2nd post here! You'll probably be seeing a lot of me! |

| You do what you want!! You would be willing to leave your previous dog outside to get another why don't you wait and see if your dog will get along with another dog you never know what'll happen!!

| I did not mean for it to sound that way. Bailey LOVES being outside. We have to make him come inside. Even when he is inside, he is on our porch, not with free roam of our house. |

| My heart broke when I read that your little dachshund may get the boot. Please see what will happen first. A Yorkie and your "dachi" may become best friends!!! |

My furkids Donating Member | Welcome to YT! I have a 20 lb Maine Coon Cat who was the only animal we had. Although I did get him in the divorce, he had been the only furkid we had for 6 years and spoiled rotten! When we got Sadie we put her in a playpen when we weren't playing with her. The cat would just walk around the playpen staring at her (probably wondering "what the heck is this thing?") I did not put them together until Sadie was around 6 months old. I was afraid he would hurt her. He is going to be 13 so he doesn't pay much attention to her now. Occasionally they will play but he gets board quickly. He has alot of patience with Sadie as she is on 2 1/2 and likes to play....McKenzi will just walk away. I have another furbaby on order. I will be getting her by the end of summer...Now,,,,,I am not so worried about the cat....it's Sadie I am worried about...she is spoiled beyond the word. I think the transition from a 1 to 2 dog house is going to be more traumatic for Sadie than McKenzi. As for the breeder selling a "not for breeding"..alot of breeders do this. It helps to cut down on backyard breeders. Yorkies are very small dogs. If you do research on this breed you will read that they don't always have easy births. You could end up losing your babies as well as your furbaby. And if they are not show quality and you do breed then the breeders name is on those puppies and it doesn't look good for them. I gave ALOT of thought to breeding Sadie, only because I didn't want to pay for another pup. When i thought about it....It would cost $1000.00 for stud fee. If she had to have a section you are looking at AT LEAST $2000.00. They don't have alot of puppies because they are so small. You could be spending more money than it would cost for you to buy another one. And then the worst!!! you could end up losing Mom, babies or both...That is a chance I didn't want to take. I will leave that to the pros.

| I am apparently not very good at explaining myself. If getting a yorkie meant giving Bailey the boot, we would not be getting him. Bailey is not inside our house with us. As I mentioned, he is an indoor/outdoor dog with indoor meaning his home is on a covered/enclosed porch. That is where it will continue to be. The Yorkie will be strictly inside, meaning inside our house. If Bailey shows aggressiveness towards the new puppy, then we will just have to be sure the Yorkie is not allowed on "his" porch. |

| I think people need to read the posts more carefully before commenting. She in no way meant that she was going to shove her dog outside or give it the boot. She stated that her other dog LOVED it outside and she was going to see how it went and was asking for advice or input.
