| Does your Yorkie use a litterbox? I live in an apartment, but it is easy to get outside. I am trying to decide how to potty train my puppy. Has anyone trained their dogs to use a litterbox, or would you reccomend it, and if so what gave you the most success with it? |

| I have never tried it but I have heard of people using this method. I hear more about people using puppy pads than anything.

| I tried the puppy litter and must say it was a complete waist of money for me. Juliette made no effort to use it and I followed the instructions to the T. I rubbed the pellets with her urine, I placed her poo poo in it, and I locked her in her kennel with the litter, nothing worked. Finally I gave up and started using pee pads and that has worked wonderfully. I have 1 in my bedroom and 1 in my living room, they have worked perfectly, she knew exactly were to go from day 1.

| Litter box/papertrain/outside I did'nt try the litter box because I've read too many stories of failed attempts. I tried training my yorkie to go outside but he had sooooo many accidents inside on our rug.I was very consistant for 3 weeks. I know it takes much longer than 3 weeks. But it failed horribly . He would poop outside easily because he would stand and start scratching on the sliding glass doors. But when it came time to pee he just peed anywhere, usually right in front of the doors. So at least he tried a few times . I finally decided to papertrain and bought a pack of those "hospital bed pads" from Walmart. They are the same type as the pet wee pads and cost a whole lot less! I let him pee somewhere and rubbed the pad over the pee and placed it near our glass doors. The next time he had to pee he went directly to the pad and peed on it! Then he pooped on it too! And it took me like 1 week to see results and 2 weeks to have him 99% trained! He still has accidents but not often. Genie |

| Litterbox I am a success story with litter box training. Sadie has been doing it since we got her and it's been so easy. If she's out playing with us as soon as we put her in her play yard (a large gated area) she goes straight to the litter box and pees. She also poops in it and very rarely does she have accidents. I love it. we did it because she had gotten so sick during the winter and we didn't want to take her outside anymore. And to think we live in Florida! I love it!!!

| We trained Yoda on pee pads in a litter box, does that count? Just a gray bin (no litter stuff) and the pee pee pads on top. It took us quite a while to train him, but as long as you are persistent, and give LOTS and LOTS of praise, they will get it! |

| Thanks for all of the answers and advice, the weather does all kinds of crazy stuff here and I don't think that taking a little yorkie out into the floods, stifling heat, and snow would be a very good idea so I want to house train her in one way or another. |

| Higgins is 99% trained to pee outside now. Really seldom makes a mistake inside in the peeing department. HOWEVER, he poops ANYWHERE !!! I just can't seem to get the poop outside idea across !!! And I just somehow feel that little devil KNOWS he's wrong, but does it anyway!!!! GRRRRrrrrrrr..... |

| Rudy is this the same as Higgin, he will pee outside, but comes in to poop. If he is not with me in the house I know something is up. He knows he has done wrong, he watches me pick it up and I tell him this is no no you go out side to poop. He looks at me and growls like he is talking back. The little toot..............Cindy I had to add I tried the pee pads and he would drag them all over the house. Maddie, she is 19 months old and was also trained to go outside and she was a breeze to train. She now will use the pee pad if I am not home and she has to go. I guess all the times I was on my hands and knees trying to get Rudy to use them, Maddie was paying attention Last edited by Maddie-Rudy-Mom; 08-25-2004 at 08:37 PM. |

| Do you guys take your little guys on walks? When Yoda was little, we sometimes had to resort to walks to get him to poop. He usually would by the end of a 10 to 15 minute walk. I don't know what finally triggered it, but Yoda at some point figured out that pee and poop is an outside activity! He likes to poop on the grass or the bark and dirt area outside, or when it's wet out, he let him on the patio (partially covered from the rain) and he circles around a few times and finds a spot to poop. |

| I thinks Rudy's problem is when he goes out with the other two he gets distracted playing and terrorizing the big dogs next door, that he forgets to poop. I have to take some of the blame for the poop in the house. Maddie doesn't like outside when it is hot so she come right back to the door and of course Rudy think he will miss something if he doesn't come in with her. If I go sit outside with them he will stay outside and poop. I am hoping it will click with him and he will know to do his business then terrorize the dogs next door. He is still young, there is hope..............Cindy |
