| Freaking Out! i found a tick on siri last night while i was giving him his nightly belly rub and i was panicking like craaaazy. we tried to get it off but we had no luck and for some odd reason i couldnt log on to yt to ask anyone for help so you can only imagine me running around in my pjs crying to my parents. it was about 1 am, so i didnt know what to do. my dad had me crate him for the night [he usually sleeps with me which makes me sooo freaked out i had my mom check my hair for ticks just in case. i know that sounds nuts but i am still freaked out] so anyway, i called his vet this morning around 7am and she said first for me to relax because he's utd with his flea and tick medication, and to use alcohol to draw the tick out...BUT when i went to do that, THE TICK WAS NOT THERE!!!!!! my parents are on yorkie duty until i get out of work, but im still buggin out. no pun intended. where the hell did the little jerk go??? is he wandering around in his crate now?? do i need to disinfected my entire room?? house?? is there like a colony of ticks in my house now??? i feel so bad that he had this bug on him. and even worse that i couldnt get it off last night and that now its prob bitten him and given him lyme disease. i feel so bad and mostly so scared. any suggestions?? any similiar experiences??? thanks guys. sorry for the rant, but u know me

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Since your baby's on flea and tick meds...I'd say the tick died and fell off. That's how it works. Look in his crate...carefully cause it's gonna be small and you might miss it. No, unless your yard or the neighborhood is infested with ticks...you're good. You probably would have found more than one if that were the case...on you, him, or someone in your household. Btw, ticks live in pine trees or are bred in pine trees. We use to camp in a campground that had pines....one summer they'd fall out of the trees and onto you....yuck I can't even tell you where we found one on hubby But let's just say...you think you were freaked out??

| I agree . If he's on tick meds then the tick most likely bit him and fell off because of the meds. I found like 1 tick per day on Cookie and I know how freaked out you must have been! The thing that I noticed was that the tick on him was not bloated and greyish looking when they are full of blood. I actually got tweezers and pulled it off and smashed it . When I smashed it there was NO blood. I ended up taking off all my sheets, pillow cases and comforter and washed it all, I moved the bed and night tables out of the way and I vaccuumed really, really well and I even sprayed the back (headboard area) of my bed. I bathed him in Tick shampoo like every 2 days. I never, ever found another tick again. All of this because I let him play outside with me. So for me personally...Cookie does not run around the grass in my yard anymore. I live in a big house and it's a lot of exercise for him since he's really small at 3 lbs. I would clean the rug and your sheets. They love to hide in the cracks of your floor boards . Genie,Cookie & Lola |

| thanks for the quick replies guys. honestly im the most annoying yorkie mother in america. ive been taking him on super long walks around the area, but i dont live in a heavily wooded place, so i thought it was kinda weird. im going to start checking him routinely after our walks now. and he is DEF getting a shorter hair do STAT so i can see em easier. :] btw deb, i can only imagine where that little bugger was hiding!! i wouldve been traumatized!!!

| I remember freaking out like you did when I found my first tick on my furbaby too! Now, it's just routine to check him and I know occassionally I will find one. You need to keep tweezers around for this purpose and grasp the little sucker on it's head and pull. If it's teeth are into the skin you will end up taking a little piece of skin off with the tick..it's probably better actually because you have to make sure you get the head of the tick along with the whole body. My furbaby is so used to it by now he actually looks forward to it I bet because it means xtra treats for him to keep still while I pull that little sucker out!!! They are disgusting creatures but as long as there are dogs and dogs being outside there will be ticks on them...that's the way it goes!! Next time it happens you'll be an old pro! |

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | when going to pull a tick off, use a pair of tweezers, soak the tick with alcohol, you can also use salt, but pull the tick off with the tweezers and flush that bugger down! another thing you can do if you go out in the woods and you want to protect yourself from ticks, is get a pet fle and tick collar and put them around your ankles, that will prevent them from getting on you! I hate ticks! |
