I remember freaking out like you did when I found my first tick on my furbaby too! Now, it's just routine to check him and I know occassionally I will find one. You need to keep tweezers around for this purpose and grasp the little sucker on it's head and pull. If it's teeth are into the skin you will end up taking a little piece of skin off with the tick..it's probably better actually because you have to make sure you get the head of the tick along with the whole body. My furbaby is so used to it by now he actually looks forward to it I bet because it means xtra treats for him to keep still while I pull that little sucker out!!! They are disgusting creatures but as long as there are dogs and dogs being outside there will be ticks on them...that's the way it goes!! Next time it happens you'll be an old pro!
