| Longterm Boarding It's been quite awhile since I've posted, but I've been struggling with something and I need help. My Yorkie will be a year old next month and he's doing great. He's trained to use a potty pad, but has (potty) accidents every once in awhile. He's a very happy dog with tons of energy. He tends to wear me out sometimes . Anyway, my husband is currently in the Army and serving in Iraq. He's been gone since the beginning of December and will be home at the end of June for 15 days. We were hoping to travel for about 9 days and I don't know what to do with our Yorkie, Hoosier. It's not really an option to take him with us because we are flying and going to various places. I know he could fly, but this is our vacation too and I don't want to try to make arrangements for him everywhere we go. I hope this doesn't sound selfish. Unfortunately, most of my pet-friendly friends are busy during that time or I don't know if I feel comfortable leaving him. What do I do? I'm afraid to board him that long and I don't want him to be lonely. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! |

| I did a search on your zip code and came up with Copperas Cove by Killeen, just North of Austin. Post the dates and I bet you can find a babysitter. I live in El Paso so I'm too far, but I would help you out if I was closer. |

| We are going to be on vacation for 12 days in October. At first we checked into a doggie daycare but it was going to be over $800.00. I have two dogs to board. When we were at the groomers we asked her if she boards and she does for $15 a day. So that is what we are going to do. I would check with local groomers. Also some vets board pets so you could try that too.

| We were gone to hawaii for about 9 days, and I struggled with leaving Sebi (1.5 yrs and Sweet Pea had just turned 1. I asked around with my friends had them check their friends and I found a wonder kennel in our area. I was VERY pleased and they LOVE dogs there. Its a family that is so cute with enclosed agility course, dog runs and a groomer on site. Just ask around and check out a few places before its time to take your trip. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I agree - see if there are members close by - And IF you find a baby sitter or member close by - check them out carefully before making a decision....It's always good to do your homework before trusting anyone with your yorkie. Also ...many Vets do Boarding or can refer you to someone good - One of my vets boards for 12 per day and they have a play room and get to go outside...your vet can be a huge help here. |

| Members here are your first option..... but I know my groomers has a daycare and it is linked to the internet so people on vacation can check up on their loved ones while they are away! It's really cool! |

| Hprush - You have kind of painted yourself into a corner. 1) You don't want to take your dog with you. 2) You can't or would rather not leave him with friends. 3) You don't want to board him. I can't think of any other options. I personally think some boarding kennels are very nice. Call a few vet's offices and get some recommendations, if you decide to consider this. In a good kennel, your pup is well taken care of, is well fed - and "yes" does get some pesonalized attention every day. But, of course, it's not like being at home. Nevertheless, most pups (dogs) are none the worse for this experience and are happy happy happy when their owners return and things get back to normal. Boarding (at a good facility) can be expensive, but If I could afford a well-recommended kennel - I would certainly feel comfortable leaving one of my dogs there. Good luck - Carol Jean Carol Jean |
