| Thinking of having a pet 1st time I'm a middle-aged single woman who has never had a pet. I've raised 2 kids, if that counts. I'm at the point in my life where I would like to have a pet for a companion. I've been doing some homework on different breeds and I think a Yorkie would be the best companion for me. Because I work full-time, I wouldn't be able to train a puppy. I also think it might be best if at least one of us knew the ropes. I'm hoping to privately adopt an adult Yorkie (male or female is fine with me) that has been housebroken (and hopefully has some obedience training). We can go to obedience school, so that's not really an issue. I live in Southern California and would like to find a dog within 3 hours drive of LAX. Any ideas or suggestions for me? I need all the help I can get! Thanks! leah |

| Good luck in your search!! There are so many yorkies out there that need great homes! I'll keep you posted if I hear of one close to you.

| Yorkies are great companions! You will love having that little body and fiercely wagging tail greet you when you come home. They are so much fun to walk and play with! Good luck in your search for an older Yorkie. Sounds like a sensible decision if you are unsure about a puppy. However, even adult Yorkies get lonely. A kitten to keep it company might be an idea!

| I think it's wonderful that you want to get a pet. And - it's smart of you to consider getting an older dog rather than deal with a new little pup --especially since you are single and work. Hopefully, a lot of people here won't scream at me. But, sometimes finding an older dog looking for a home is more difficult than finding a puppy....and when you start looking - it might be good to look at other small breeds as well as Yorkies. This might give you a better chance at finding an older dog. I have so many friends with dashunds, maltese, and other small breeds that totally love them to death.... They are wonderful pets too. Anyway - look for your Yorkie -- but just "peek" at some others also. I had a PoodlePom mix that was my favorite dog ever. Now I have two wonderful pets..... a Bichon and a Yorkie. If you don't mind going to a groomer once a month or once every six weeks, a Bichon is a wonderful little dog....the friendliest in the world. And, we all know that Yorkies are great. I wish you the best of luck. Carol Jean |

| I have always had pets as a child but my yorkie twinkle is my first real pet, and to be honest she has been very little problem, but i am able to take her to work, so that probably has helped. When i got her i took a week off work just to spend time trying to get her trust, and i think the time was well spent. good luck with you search, they are a lovely breed and i want another! |
