| How many times will your Yorkie use... the pee/poo pad before it needs changed??? Bella is almost 5mths old now, and I've had the luxury of being a "stay-at-home Mom" with her. Well... unfortunately I must go back to work (full-time) in a couple weeks, so I won't be home to change the pad. She doesn't seem to like to go on a dirty pad (understandably!!!) so when home, I change it often and always pick up the poo right away. But... if for some reason, I don't realize she's gone, (especially poo) she won't use the pad again and she'll go in front of it. Well... I'll be gone all day so I won't be able to change it so she's inevitably going to end up pooing/peeing all around the pad trying to find a clean spot! So I'm sure the suggestion would be to place numerous pads around so she can have plenty of places to go but there is a problem. I've been placing the pad inside a large wire crate. Well... not too large, I think it's the 22 inch. But anyways, I started placing the pad in the crate because it kind of confined her to poo/pee in there, and it keeps things neater. She'll hop in there and do her business and be done. I can't buy a whole bunch of crates because we really don't have the room to place them everywhere... Ack! So I'm thinking perhaps crating her while gone... but I really don't want to crate her for 7+ hrs!!! I won't be able to come home on lunches... |

| I would try taking the crate away now while your still home the next couple weeks and make sure she goes on the pad without having to get into the crate. So I two weeks when you go to work then she will realize that all the pads around the room are for her to use, and not just the on that is inside the crate. I really don't think you should lock the pup up for 7 hrs. at a time. I'm fortunate enough to be able to drive home and let my puppies out at lunch time and my husband gets off work at 3:30 so their never in their crates more than 4 hrs. at a time. We are about to just let them have the living room and kitchen to see how it's going to work. We are goin to be donig the same thing as you are thinking about and just leaving a couple pee pads out for the to use Crystal

| Thanks... I've thought about doing that. Just leaving pads down and kind of "starting over". She already has it down (using the pads) but now it'll just be minus the crate. I'm just so afraid that w/out the crate barriers, she'll start going everywhere around the pad... Guess I won't know until I try! |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | The older she gets the longer she will also be able to hold it, so she won't need to go as often while you are gone!! I would put two peepads together and create a bigger area for her to go on. Sailor will use a pee pad a couple of times before she thinks they are too dirty, but they both will wait to poop until we get home and can go outside!! Try really working with her the next couple of weeks, before you go back to work and she will eventually figure it out...but don't expect perfection from her right away!!

| i had my boston terrier tranied like that because when she was a puppy i could put her in the cage with her pad and not let her out until she pee or pooed and it was really easy to train her v/s trying to get her to stay on the pad because she would just run off of them and pee in the floor b4 i could get to her so it was alot easier for me to train her that way....it was so cute because after she got older she knew what to do to get out she would just pee alittle and she knew it was time to get out and finely i got to where i just left the door open and she would go in and out as she needed to go no problem....but the down side of that was it was really hard for her to go without the cage like if we took her camping or took her for rides it was hard for her to go on a leash....i even had to buy a cage just like hers for our camper so she could go when she needed to go and i would have to take her in the camper to let her go to her cage she just would not go anywhere else....so when we got Bo i said i would never cage train one agian because of this reason i didnt want to have to tote a cage everywhere i went with him so he could potty....but since you already done it i would say like everyone else has said i would just take the cage away while i was home and she how she did without it....i dont know how she is but i know pixie my boston would not use anything else but her cage but your baby might take to the pads on the floor without the cage just fine...good luck i hope all works well with you *hugs* |
