OMG! Cody almost fell out the car window I had the window about 3/4 down and we were just pulling out of a parking lot when Cody decided he wanted a closer look at the street. He climbed up the door and was hanging half way out and struggleing to keep from falling. I reached over and grabbed at his tail but it is so very short I lost my grip, so I reached again and grabbed him by his skin on his lower back. At this time I almost hit a car and then a curb. I know if I tell someone else they will say something like I should have let him fall instead of almost getting in an accident. But this is one of my Yorkies and I not gonna let anything happen to him. This is the only place I can think of that will understand what we are willing to do for a Yorkie life. I never ride with the window down but today is such a nice cool morning for us in South Texas I wanted him to feel the air too. NEVER AGAIN! I am still shaking from the whole thing. I could have lost him.

OMG NO-ONE here is going to tell you you should have let him go!!! It is just something in everyday life that we all have to watch out for and worry about (but not TOO much as we want to enjoy our yorkies!) Just SO glad all was ok! Better to damage the car than have your baby hurt!! I can imagine how shaken you are at the thought of what could have happened BUT it didn't so please try and relax - easy said I know!! Ana

| I would have reacted the same way, or worse but I would have never have let him go!! I probably would have slammed on my brake out of reflex! Our little babies are so quick and unpredictible ... you never know what they will do! Toto has never liked to look out the car window ... I wish she would ... maybe I wouldn't feel so guilty on long trips. She is so patient ... she doesn't even look out when we have the top down on my car, but she is beginning to act like she enjoys having it down!

Yes, I think us Yorkie addicts would do anything to save our babies. Yoda actually JUMPED from his Mom's lap out the car window onto the grass one time (car was thankfully stopped). Perhaps it's time for a car seat for Cody?

Cody the adventurer I know that you were scared to death....Max loves to look out too and I can't leave the window open unless he is in his seat belt. Even then I just crack it because I can't trust him....he is drawn to an open window. I am so glad that you were able to hold onto him before he jumped out Max's Mom

Cody Mine ride in carriers most of the time, but I understand letting them ride free. When I do that I use a show lead..they are much thinner. I tie the lead around the head rest. It is enough room to get on my lap or the seat, but not the drivers window. My friend had a car accident and the ER person openned the door..out went her Yorkie and got run over. It scares me to have them totally loose.

So glad Cody is alright. They are so fearless and have no ideal the danger they are in sometimes. After something like that you could ring there little neck but, you smoother them will love because you are so glad they are alright. I was at PetMart with my two and always put a throw in the basket and let them ride. Just out of the blue my little toot Rudy decided to jump out the basket. The race was on, he landed looked back for a second and there he went me right behind him. Got him and I could have beat him lol. Then I thought Maddie was still in the basket, thank God she is an angel, she was sitting there like he is in trouble. Now I put leashes on them when they ride in the basket. They teach us something everyday. Thanks for sharing with us.............Cindyl

Hey everyone-My Dolce scared me half to death the other day too. I call her my "little monkey" because she is forever trying to wriggle outta our hands and run all over the house. She only wants to lay in your lap when shes REALLY tired, otherwise its PLAY PLAY PLAY!! Anyway, so my boyfriend had her in his lap sitting at the computer and all of a sudden she hears me in the bathroom and squirms completely outta his hands, he tried to catch her but she fell anyway. Well, i thought i was going to choke my boyfriend. She never yelped or cried or anything but all of a sudden she starts limping on her front leg. I thought for sure, she had broken it. So i watched her as she limped around for like 10 min, still of course trying to play, me the whole time babying her and getting paranoid. Finally I said, I cant take it anymore, we're goin to the vet! Off we went and it turns out the vet thinks she just sprained it and gave us some antibiotics to give her. She has her moments here and there limping (it only happened Tues), but she is walking on it better and better everyday. They sure will give you almost a heart attack sometimes for sure!! Little pipsqueaks they are!! I am so glad to hear that all of the stories your babies were alright....

How big of a fall was it? Sorry to hear, but at least her little leg is not broken! No matter what you do, it's impossible to keep them from being a bit of a wild child. :P Just be especially careful outdoors where there are cars and other dangerous things around.

Hey fasteddie, how are you? Well, it was maybe about a 2 ft. fall....scared me half to death!! Yes I am so glad her leg wasnt broken....my vet tells me "shes a courageous little thing" because she never even flinches when she gets a shot....then when I told him that she never even whimpered when she fell, he was like "SHE DIDNT CRY AT ALL???" He couldnt believe it. Yep, my little 'Evil Kneivel'....thanks for the good wishes...hope all is well!!

I love the idea about tying them to the headrest! Thanks! My old dog, Pogo, sleeps while we travel and isn't all that interested in what is going by. Higgins, on the other hand, has to be RIGHT BY the window so he can see EVERYTHING. He likes to sit on my ample chest and pretend he's the driver! Both our side windows have lots of drooly nose prints all over the inside where he goes from side to side to look for us when we leave them in the car. He used to sleep most of our travel time, but not lately. It is going to be interesting to see how he acts on our loooooong ride to our winter grounds......We are both worried about him getting enough exercise this winter. He RUNS all day here, inside and outside. The car, a tiny camper, a small campsite, and being leashed all the time are going to be pretty restrictive for our little free spirit.

I bought seat belt holders for both chester and chelsy. They sit in the back seat in the car and it attaches to ther harnes. This way they can still move around but not to much that they distract me as I'm driving. I'm alway worried that chester would jump out the car,as he like to see what is happening. I saw that happen to a man one day when he slamed on the brakes to avoid and accident. the dog jumped right out the window. I would have grabed chester too. I don't know anyone how wouldn't do that... Does anyone have one of those dog boster chairs for the car. I would like ot know if they work? p.s Glad your baby is ok and you too.

I am glad that you were able to get him before he fell. That would have been awful. I need to get a carseat for my girls, but they are a little expensive for me right now, maybe I will ask for that for my b-day. It does make me nervous to let them run free in the car. They are very used to sitting with me when we go somewhere. How did you yorkies make the transition to a carseat? Was it hard, do they mind them?

| Its best to have them fastened with a seat belt, but they make a window thingy that goes in there so they can get some air. Ours well BoBo has a little bed in our truck in between the seats and he sleeps in it. So glad your dog wasnt hurt . Glad the other one just had a spring and hope it heals quick.
