Its best to have them fastened with a seat belt, but they make a window thingy that goes in there so they can get some air. Ours well BoBo has a little bed in our truck in between the seats and he sleeps in it. So glad your dog wasnt hurt . Glad the other one just had a spring and hope it heals quick.
