| help questions about my new yorkie hello again we picked up our yorkie on tuesday. He's soo adorable playful and snuggly too. I just have a couple of questions. when we got him from the breeder she had tape on his ears. the white medical tape and the first thing I thought was oh no she broke his ears off and had to tape them back. he looked quite comical. she showed me how to tape them back and I knew you were supposed to keep the hair trimmed on the ears so the weight wouldnt' pull them down but is taping them normal. we didnt' really care if his ears stood up or not so we took off the tape. and the second question is how big is too big. he's 9 weeks old and has his papers she said he was the biggest of the litter and he's already 3lbs. she said the dad was 8lbs. Is this a red flag or normal to sometimes just get a big yorkie? |

| I LOVE floppy eared Yorkies too! Baby has her ears up, but she is close to 8lbs, and I love every inch of her fatty tummy!

| I can't wait to see pictures of him. I taped Ollie's ears for 3 days and that was all it took. Actually I think just trimming the hair would have done it. But a breeder was showing me how so I let them go ahead and do it. You're not supposed to leave the tape on much longer than that or moisture could get in their ears and cause an infection. |

| Puppies usually have floppy ears that go up and down for a while. (And, I think the "floppy little ears" are the cutest things in the world on a little puppy). And, they are so cute, it's no wonder we wouldn't mind them staying this way. However, as my pup grew, I soon realized that one of the hallmarks of Yorkshire terrier is their "pointed erect ears." And, luckily, mine went up on their own to stay at four months. But - if they hadn't, I, personally, would have done whatever I could to get them up. I really prefer them that way in an adult Yorkie. | My Cali is small (2.2 lb) but has some major ears (shhh, she may hear us talking about her from A MILE AWAY!). One ear started to stand up at 10 wks and she looked so cute, but after a while, it just looked like one was broken. I taped the other (not both together) with basic masking tape. As with JeanieK, it only took 3 days, but during that time the other fell. So, I taped the other one, and after 3 days, it stood up as well. A week later, one of them fell again and we did the tape a second time for only 2 days. As you can see, at 14 weeks, a good breeze could send her flying - now if we could just get the puppy coat to yield to a brush... If you decide to tape again, do not worry - once it is on, they don't even notice it. |

| We had the groomer "tip" Oscar's ears. That is where they shave the backside of the ear about 1/4 of the way down to take the weight off of the tip of the ear. Oscar's ears have stayed "tipped" from then on. He got groomed today and the new groomer did not tip his ears...neither did she clip his nails...grrr...I will have to take him back and get those nails clipped...but his ears are up to stay. Best of luck with your new puppy...big Yorkies are not a bad thing. Oscar is a sturdy 7 pounds and he is just perfect!

| Congratulations on your new puppy! He sounds lovely I've also read that floppy ears are totally normal in a puppy and normally correspond to their teething stage, starting to stand erect at about five months. If you're not that fussed about it, then don't worry about taping them or anything - ears up or down, they're all gorgeous! |

| aaww the pics are soo cute I love the one ear up one ear down pic. Both of our puppies ears are down he's only 9 weeks old and the breeder said she's had his ears taped for 2 1/2 weeks now, just seemed like it was early from what i had read. I do plan to keep the ears "tipped" but won't be upset if they don't straighten up. We're all really enjoying our puppy if we can just find him a name before he thinks it's puppy or aawww or how cute. lol he'll probably start answering to any of those any day now. |
