| This weekend I saw some of the Eukneuba dog show and two of the dogs that we up for show were barking.... I think the were in the hunting category... (like a beagle pup) I wouldn't doubt that some ppeople would do that though

| OMG that sounds awful!! poor babies, I hope it is not true, but I can't say I wouldn't be surprised if it were. We chop off their tails to make them more "perfect" so it wouldn't shock me if people did this in an attempt to make their dogs more perfect. So sad!!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have seen some show dogs that were debarked. They were pomeranians and the sound they made was worse than a bark. It's like a high pitched weird sound. Once when I was looking for a puppy after Gracie died, my sister and i went to a "breeder" in Wisconsin and her house was filthy and she had 3 dogs, poodles. in one cage and they had all been debarked. The women was so heavy she couldn't get out of her chair and had her dtr show me the puppies. My sister and I ran out of their so fast.

| debarking The voice box is not actually removed, they cauterize the vocal cords to debark..it is not limited to show breeders...infact I have meet very few who have done this to their dogs. I knew a Maltese breeder and a Westie breeder who did this..neither showed. Most show dogs do not bark because they are so used to the commotion... | That is so sad. I cannot imagine subjecting my little boy to a procedure like that. I haven't even had him neutered yet for fear of putting his little body through trauma, imagine having his voice box taken out? To what extreme do people go to modify their dogs? If you can't stand the sound of a dog barking, DON'T OWN A DOG!!! Argggggg!! Sorry, I lose it when I hear stuff like this.

| i know necee! its like humans do their boobs and have facial lifts, but to do something crazy like that to your dog?! i mean, poor little puppies, its bad enough we chop off their tails, but to not make them bark is crazy!

| I guess it makes no sense to us because we love our pups so much. My Nikko is a total loudmouth but I would never do something like that to him. My question is why would something like that even be necessary on a showdog? I mean, aren't they supposed to be well trained and well behaved? Isn't that why they are being shown?
