Oh dear, I've been snubbed! I've been job hunting and if yesterday was anything to go by, I'm in for it with my Susan! She's used to me being home all the time or taking her with me almost everywhere I go. But Monday I had interviews. And yesterday I interviews. Then yesterday evening instead of spending the evening sitting on my lap on the sofa like she usually does, she kept going off by herself. I found her one time curled up on the shirt I'd taken off earlier, but she wouldn't have anything to do with me myself. I think she was snubbing me. I figure she'll do a lot more of the same when I start working full time. If things go the way I hope they will she'll only have two or three days a week at home alone and they won't be really long days, sometimes as short as 4 to 5 hours. So she could be one fortunate little dog. But try telling her that! Especially when she's had Mommy 24/7 as long as she can remember! Do you think she'll go into a funk and if so, what should I do about it?

| She is just pouting, she will get over it! Maybe you should get another one to keep her company during the day

We need to move before October and after that we'll probably get another dog, but not a Yorkie. My husband wants a "real" (i.e., big) dog. I hope not too big, though.

susansmom Here's an idea in the meantime: Is she crate trained? If so, get one that is oversized for her tiny self. Put a bed in there and take one of your old oversized T-shirts or sweaters and lay it on the bed in the crate w/ the door open. I'd put this crate in an area where your house typically gets the most traffic or near your bed. The idea is that she can still "be" w/ you, while your away. She probably snoozes a lot when you're not there (on those days that you didn't bring her w/ you in the past) anyway, and this way she'll have her own little secluded place that she can retreat to and wait for mom to get home. I've had many clients do this to help transition a dog and it's a trick that usually does the key! Further if/when you get this big dog, she'll have her own area to get out from underway, especially if you get a large breed puppy. m2c

She's crate trained. That's a good idea. My mom and dad even have an over sized crate that they're not using. We usually put her in the bedroom when we're not going to be home. We put her crate (door open) in there, too. She can see out the sliding glass door if she wants to or play with her toys. But we think she spends most of her time sleeping on our bed which we cover with an old blanket when we're gone. She sleeps there at night anyway, so she thinks that's her home. But she likes having a crate. She goes there when she wants to be alone or when she gets hot at night or when something bothers her. I guess everyone needs their own special place. But I think you're right about it becoming especially important when we get a larger dog.

My pup is home alone for four days a week (for 6 or 7 hours) and is just fine. Can't imagine that your little dog is snubbing you. Dogs usually never hold grudges and are almost always totally excited and happy to see people. Your puppy will probably be back to normal before you know it.... Carol Jean
