| ok, but if the reason for selling females for more is because of demand that does make much sense either, then that is just getting extra money just because you can. if you are selling both male and females and they are all S/N then there is no reason for jacking up the price on females because they are all equal at that point. charging more because you put dresses and bows on them, now i have heard it all. while we are on the subject though why does a breeder (no one person, just in general) decide that a dog is not kept for breeding or showing and still charge an arm and or leg for it? "you" are basically saying that this dog is not worthy of my program so i am going to have it S/N and still expect someone to pay upwards of 1500 to 3k for him/her.

As for getting more for females, it's a matter of supply and demand and what the market will stand. As for charging as much for a pet quality as they do for breeding quality, Look at the price range. Some sell for $500, others for $10000. Some ask ridiculous amounts for tiny ones that cannot possibly be healthy. And people will pay it. Why? Because people will pay more thinking that they are getting more. Some people think a $500 dog must have something wrong with it, whereas if they price is $1500, they think they're getting a better dog. Go figure.

| I knew I wanted a male Yorkie right from the start, but when I was researching, alot of breeders told me the female Yorkies cost more because 1) You can breed them and 2) Majority of Yorkie owners choose to have girls because you can dress them up and put little bows on their hair and dress. I guess since their hair is so beautiful and long, Yorkie owners want their dogs to look cute with their bows. I mean I wouldn't put my lil male yorkie in a bow at all. BTW - HELLO everyone... I'm a new on this site and I am glad I came across it!! My pup's name is Flirt - cuz that's what he is! Sheri |

| yeah go figure, i have actually seen/heard people say you can not get a quality dog for under 1000.00. that is not true, but maybe that thinking is part of why the prices are so high. like you said, they think they are getting "something" for the price.

| Great Question! I don't price females higher, I lower the price on males. Females are more in demand. I truly believe males sometimes are more willing to please.JMO. My puppies are sold on S/N contracts. I wonder if it is an anatomy issue, I here a lot of misconceptions of male behavior (even neutered). When I used to show Ocicats. The Pet kittens were the same price. Maybe because sex is hiddened?

I chose a female because I can't stand that marking thing that males tend to do, even after having been in for the big snip. Eeeeeeewwwey! Not for me!

| I am reading all the different opinions on this. I am a breeder and yes.... my girls are priced higher. Mainly because For every 10 people who call me.... 8 of them wants a female..... There are people who only want males as well but majority are looking for little girls. And it's not a breeding thing to.....yorkies tend to be a breed women want. Girls want to tote them around and doll them up. It's completely subjective and it is JMHO. But reasons can be different based on an individual breeder. |

Carol Jean? Just had a question - you mentioned the dead spots in the grass caused by females. I have never heard that before. Does it matter if they are spayed or not? Never had a problem with my males killing the grass, so I would guess it's something in the female urine. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks!

| What I don't seem to understand in reading these posts is that people are complaining about the price of females VS. males.. Well, it must not be too bad, because we all have Yorkies right?? You either pay the price or you don't. There is A TON of time involved in being a breeder.. Is there money to be made?? Yes, I'm sure there is, but not as much as some might think. Supply and demand is a NORMAL concept. You see it EVERYWHERE. Not just in the Yorkie world... Breeders (reputable) put lots of time into loving these babies and making them social for us before we take them. Also, not to mention HEALTHY... To me you either buy your baby or you don't. I don't really see why people argue about it.. JMO |
