Why do females cost more? I'm just curious. For the life of me, I can't figure it out. Anyone know why famales always cost more? |
They cost more because you can breed them. |
There is a higher demand for them, and it's all a matter of supply and demand. |

Why do females cost more? We are high maintence...we need STUFF...(just ask my husband) :p oh - you mean yorkies ? :p because they can have babies...and I agree - if one is sold spayed then why aren't they priced the same as the males ? good question. |
I know and the females are still higher. I think its like Jeanie said there is more of a demand for them also. My breeder told me they were higher because you could breed them but she didnt have a spay/neuter agreement. |
because breeders can make their money back on them 10 fold....even when some of these girls should NOT be bred! |

I have allways thought that its because they can produce litters, but other than that, like if you get them from someone that has them spayed before you get them, thats the part I didnt understand myself. Mabie they do it to make a couple hundred extra. I really never understood it either. |
I guess I always assumed that ther are more females in most litters, so that would meet the increased demand. Every time I spoke with a breeder who had puppies, it always seemed like they had more girls in their litter. |

I asked a breeder that when I was shopping for Ginger and she said it was “because you can dress them up and put bows in their hair.” Seriously though? I wanted a girl because I’m not a fan of that thing boys do with their…you know. And a little girl just sounded right for me. |
I'm sure it is due to the demand more than anything else. In Great Danes, the males are more expensive because their heads are larger and they are taller so they are more in demand. I think you will see that Pomeranians are about the same because the male usually has a prettier coat so they are equally in demand. |
Personally, I charge about the same, males or females. I may consider a slightly lower price on a male I am looking for a good pet home for, if he is maybe on the bigger side or is considerably older as he isn't working out for the show rings as I might have hoped. Females are more in demand and many do not want to consider a male. Somehow I just don't have the luck to have more females born or available for pet homes than males. BTW all puppies are sold under nonbreeding contracts if I trust you and you live in my area. I still only sell in my area pretty much but will wait it out and have the spay/neuter done before I sell it after extensive interviews. I do not consider any of my puppies sold for pet to be breeding material for someone who just wants to breed. |
All my boys and girls are spayed or neutered. I believe that male or females can be equally good, loveable, affectionate pets. But, I prefer males for only two reasons. 1) I'm tired of trying to correct and repair all the dead spots in my grass that little girls cause. 2) A potty training issue - I can put belly bands on the little guys - so much easier than dealing with little girls diaper's etc. These are the only two reasons I prefer a little boy. I have had both - and believe me, they are equally as loveable and affectionate. ***** And - girls generally do cost more -- this is just the way it is!!!!! Carol Jean |
I don't know if it's just me...but did anyone ever notice that when Yorkies have puppies a lot of the time that have more males than females? I've noticed this...maybe that's why the females are in higher demand. |
