| Hi all Just thought I would introduce my new baby. I have been reading this forum for a week now and lots of good info. My yorkie is named AprilLove and she is 10 weeks old today and weighs 1 lb 6 oz. She is just the most wonderful little girl full of spunk and love. Well, I am sure I need not say more as all you mommys and daddys know this already! ' She is my third pup. I have a Bichon (male) and Maltese (female) I wonder if anyone can help me with the Maltese-yorkie relationship :-) Bitsy-Roo (maltese) is 10 years old and has been the boss and queen of the house for the last 10 years, (Bailey, the Bichon is 12 years old and knows Bitsy is the boss so no problem there). Well, she is very stand offish to the new baby and I think she is coming along a little bit, but she growls at her if she starts to play with her and Bitsy just keeps looking at me with those big black eyes when I have AprilLove in my lap. I am making sure to let Bitsy know she is still the boss and pay her equal attention, but just wonder if there is anything special I should be doing to help the relationship grow or just let them work it out by themselves? Bitsy has never bitten or had a mean bone in her body, but I get a little freaked when she snaps or growls at the baby. Bitsy only weighs 5.5 lbs, but right now that seems like a giant compared to my new baby. I have them separated when I am not home and they are always under my supervision when I am home. Sorry for the long post and I love this site! I am going to post a pick now on the my yorkie threads. Thanks for reading MaryKay |

| I would say you're doing the right thing to let them work it out by themselves, and to keep them separated when they aren't being supervised. Before you know it they will be playing together. Just keep giving the older dogs lots of love and attention. OH BTW Welcome to YT the place where you can obsess about your yorkie and no one thinks you're crazy. |

| Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have a 9 year old pom who weighs 13 lbs and she does not really care for cali. She will sometimes growl and snap at her but has never hurt her. I do not leave them alone together yet. I am just letting them work it out. many days now they wil sit next to each other. They will work it out in time

| Welcome to YT..... I'm in a multiple dog family and I will give you this advice..... Bitsy is the head girl...... there is ALWAYS a top dog..... so when you come home.... you always go to Bitsy first. When you give treats... you always give Bitsy first..... she will feel secure in her place and not get jealous about the new baby. Don't worry about the new baby..... she has to learn who is top dog and she will adjust. She is learning everything new so she will be happy with whatever placement she gets. Bitsy is not learning and if you change how you are handling her for the less..... I guarantee she will take it out on your new baby one day. The best thing you can do is to give Bitsy EXTRA special attention. As if having the new baby there makes Bitsy extra cute! That way she will like the new pup.... make sense? |

| my "head girl"(25 lb. mix) hated having Tootie in the house when he first came... he is 7 months now(BIG 11 pounds) and they have figured out quite well how to live together. She has even played with him when she thinks I am not looking... She snaps but has never actually bitten him. He teases her and they just manage.. his best friend is my other dog, Laci, she is an 80 pound lab who doesnt know it!

| Thanks for the welcoming words everyone. Yorkie4me, thanks for the advice. I do greet Bitsy first when I come home as she (QueenBee) has the run of the house, so she always sees me first. The other two share the kitchen for now while AprilLove is pottytraining. I will let them figure it out and hope it goes well. There has been progress, tonight Bitsy let April lay on my lap at the same time, but Bitsy was up on my stomach and April on my legs so maybe that helps the doggy heiarchy?MaryKay Mom to Bailey, Bitsy-Roo and AprilLove |

| Donating YT 14K Club Member | Welcome! Sometimes, it can take a little time for others to warm up to the newbie. I'm sure though, that eventually, they'll all be the best of friends!

| It is very *normal* for dogs to growl (and even snap) at each other. I wouldn't be overly concerned and I would let them work it out on their own. Do keep a close eye to make sure it doesn't escalate. It's probably best to separate them when you aren't there to supervise. Otherwise, I'd stay out of it!
