| Confused on when to take to the vet. I have a 9 month old pup and I'm curious about the times that I should take her to the vet. We got her from the breeders when she was 3 months old and he told us that she had all her shots and that we didn't need to get her anymore. I've got records of all her sohots. She had her rabbies shot in October. Do I need to take her for annuals when she's a year old or wait til October when her rabbies shot is due? This is the first time I've ever had a dog and I want to make sure she's getting the right care. Also she went into heat about 2 days ago, I've got the little panties with the pads, but I was wondering how long they mornally bleed? Also she's very clingy and wants to constantly sleep in my lap, is that normal? Thanks for any help. |

| Welcome to YT!!!! I would take her in now, just for a cheack up. Make sure you bring your records with you. They will let you know when the next shots are due. Heat lasts for three weeks. Princess didn't bleed much for her first one. LOL Princess is always on my lap, she's 3 years old. It's very normal. Would love to see pictures of your furbaby, And again Welcome to the family!!!

| Welcome to YT . . . .you came to the right place as there are so many educated, well informed, friendly people that is always willing and able to help you out . . .plus you get to brag your yorkie and know she/he will be loved by everyone. As for when to take him next to the vet, I suggest you take him in as soon as you can, not necessarily to fnd out when his next shots is required but just for his over-all wellmess check-up. The vet can then give you dates on when to schedule him as well as answer any of your concerns. You may have taken home a very healthy pup, but nothing like getting the personally by your vet. |

| I agree with the other posts... Plus it's a good time to check out if you like the vet and for the vet to get to know your dog a little (handy if your dog gets sick)...

| I was thinking if you got her at 3 months and she is now nine months why havent you had her to the vet in 6 months. I cannot believe she had all the shots she needed by the time she was 3 months old. Just my opinion but, I definately get her to the vet asap and make sure the shots that were giving before you brought her home were the right ones, and the only ones she needs. I got Penny at 9 weeks and she has gone to the vet 4 times since for shots and check ups. These little furbabies need to be checked on by the vet. i would say at least every three months, to make sure everything is "A OK". |

| I got my pup at 8 weeks and we went 2x to the vet for shots and check. We haven't been since 12 weeks as she is well. She is now 5 months,so we haven't been for 2 months. I don't think you haave to go unless there is a concern, until she is a year and needs a booster. However we will be there soon for spaying and if we have any concerns.Am I wrong?

| i don't know, but i don't take mine every two or three months. i take them when they need shots, checkups, or if i have questions about something and they have been extremely healthy. i know them well though and know if they are acting strange or like something may be wrong. not saying right or wrong but just that i don't take mine that often. |

| I'm surprised the person you bought her from did not tell you to get a vet check w/in 3 days. When I sell a pup I have it in the contract to take to vet even though all my pups are checked by my vet. That way you get to know your vet & vet gets to know pup. Also if everything is not aok you will know. Anyway, welcome to YT. And would love to see pix of your little girl. |

| vet visit I would take her to the vet now. You need to build up a relationship so that when you need him he is there for you. And as said they will keep track of when your puppy needs updates |

| My husband handled everything with the breeder since my baby was a suprise b-day present. I do know that the breeder took her to the vet 2 days before he sent her to us, I even have it documented. The first picture is of the first day we got her, the second one was a month ago, she's had a summer cut since then and all that hai isn't in her face. The third one I thought was just too cute and thought I would put it in.( The picture is not set up- she did it all on her own, she loves to watch t.v.) |

| I agree with all the others...it's always a good idea to bring the dog to the vet as soon as you adopt, just to get the pup checked over to make sure there are no problems. I've had my pup for a month and a half and he's been to the vet a few times already, the first time within 24 hours of getting him, and he's now booked for his neutering in early May. My vet also mails out cards to let me know when it's time for shots, check-ups, etc. Establishing a relationshiip with your vet is extremely important, especially if you find yourself in an emergency situation. Good luck with your new baby!! She's beautiful! |

| I was already established with my vet from visits with my other pets - I took my new little Yorkie in for a well puppy check when I first got him - along with the shot records that were give me. My Yorkie has never been sick but has returned to the vet once or twice for his routine shots. I trust my vet and leave him 100% in charge of whatever shots my pets need. And - of course, he keeps the records. They send me a notice in the mail whenever it's time for any of my pets to get any shot they need ---and away we go. I think at this point since my pup is 7 months old - he's not due for any more shots for more than a year. And, if I remember correctly, I think his rabies shot is good for 3 years. ***** I appreciate my vet keeping tracking of my pet's shots and notifying me when they are due. It's one less thing for me to have to do (and I wouldn't even want to go there - even here on YT a lot of people disagree about which shots dogs need, how often, etc. I'm happy my vet manages all that for me. (And believe me - the shots he recommends are few and far between.) Carol Jean |
