| Im Very Concerned About Zip Zip went to the vet and has a hernia but they will fix that when he gets fixed. What im concerned about if i am not really really careful when i pick him up he yelp loud. I can feel his ribs.but he thin to. I am taking him to another vet. I have heard when I called around to vet doctor that a hernia should not hurt him. |

| Trust me hernias hurt when you press too hard. I had one years ago right under my belly button and when the Doctor pressed on it I almost hit the roof. Did not hurt however under normal circumstances. I got it when I had a really bad cold from coughing, I'm now a firm believer in cough syrup......

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Take it easy with Zip. You may want to check with your vet and he can prescribe a canned food with extra vitamins and proteins to help your little one gain weight till his surgery. Science Diet A&D is one.

| I thought hernia's were not supposed to hurt with dogs. Maybe that is not the case. It probably would be a good idea to get a second opinion at another vet. I know someone who had a female yorkie with a hernia and she didn't have any problems. They fixed the hernia when the dog was spayed. |

| Ruby had an ambilical hernia that I had fixed when she was spaied. I never noticed her in any pain from it when she was picked up or playing. It was about the size of a dime and I knew about it when I bought her from the breeder. No one would take her because of it (they were un-educated about hernia's). So I did some research and found out ambilical hernia's aren't as serious as others and can be fixed quite easily. She healed great from it and we haven't had any problems.

| Hernias can hurt if they become strangulated. When a hernia becomes painful this is usually an emergency situation. Usually you will notice that the dog stops eating food and then drinking. You should also notice bowel disturbances because only liquid may be able to get through if the intestine is twisted. I would seek a second opinion because of the pain even though you usually can delay hernia surgeries in most cases. |

| Please don't think that hernias don't hurt ---- there are many different types of hernias, and some are much worse than others. Also, picking up a little dog might hurt it - whereas the little guy might be much more comfortable walking around or lying down. I would keep in touch with my vet and get it taken care of as soon as possible. I don't think this is a reason to visit another vet... Visit the vet you are seeing and go over your additional concerns with him. Carol Jean |
