| puppy smuggling smuggling of small, sick, very young dogs from Mexico is on the rise. Go to www.cnn.com and click on the puppy smuggling link to see the video story. Very sad. |

| OMG how sad. As much as I feel for the lady in the video, I do wonder about someone who'd a) buy a puppy off of a street corner and b) obviously not bring the puppy to the vet until there was problems. She set herself up for heartache. How sad that her children had to unnecessarily go through this. What's wrong with getting a great pet from the SPCA? Like I said in another post, puppy smuggling and puppy mills are horrendous, but as long as there's a demand for the dogs and as long as there's people out there who don't want to pay what these little guys are worth, there will be people like this selling them illegally. It's awful that a living, breathing thing with feelings can be treated like merchandise. |

| I didn't watch the video yet, but I can just imagine. I live on the Border in Texas and see this all of the time. We have a huge flea market here and there's always a bunch of people selling "purebred" puppies. The police and animal control keep watch but they can't do anything unless the puppies appear to be sick. Every time I go to the vet's office, I encounter people there who have bought a puppy from Mexico. They don't look healthy or like the breed standard. Since I have a bulldog, the vet tells me about the bulldogs from Mexico that come in with horrible diseases and genetic problems. He warns people not to buy dogs that have come from Mexico but they're cheaper and people don't listen to him. Dog stealing is a HUGE problem here and I have to be so careful! I learned the lesson when my house was broken into and my Dalmatian was stolen 10 years ago. I installed an alarm system after that but I also stopped walking my dogs around the neighborhood. Only my immediate neighbors know I have a bulldog and no one has seen my Yorkie. After the dogs are stolen, they're turned into breeders either here or in Mexico. Julie |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | It's SICK !! Disgusting and sick how people are out to make a buck by breeding just ANYTHING and stealing dogs to do it...I can't imagine how much these poor dogs suffer all so some Cold hearted greedy human can make a quick buck. They also found them smuggling DRUGS in puppies tummies.....Our world gets sicker by the day. IF they cracked down on Animal Abuse and gave JAIL TIME in more cases maybe we would see a drop in this awful abuse..... |
