| Missing...Then found Goodness ladies and gents was yesterday a day for emotions. Yesterday my husband was working from home and let both Rocky & Daisy outside for a potty break. We live on acerage and both just do there thing in our front yard and come right back to the front door. We have a rule whomever lets the dogs out also put the timer on for 5 min. Well my husband forgot to put the timer on and 45 min later he remembered about the dogs. When he opened the door Daisy was sitting right there but Rocky was no where to be found. My husband and kids searched for hours and drove around but could not find him. They tried to put Daisy outside thinking she might lead them to Rocky but she would only run back in the house with her tail down...She was so depressed which lead my husband to think a hawk might have gotten Rock who is only 4lbs. At 4:45PM I called the house to let my husband know I was on the way home and he said "There is something I need to tell you", the tone was as if he was about to tell me his company was having a layoff. After he told me I wanted to reach through the phone and choke him out. ;-) The feelings I and the family have is that Rocky and Daisy are like our kids and I could not understand that he would let them out without being outside or could even leave them out for 45 min alone. Soon as he finished telling me from my cell I called Animal Control for my area, SPCA and even the Police department in case a patrol officer might have just picked him up. After I got home within 10 minutes the Animal Control department called and said they had Rocky. He was found about 1 mile from our home just walking down the side of the road. First thing they did was scan him for a microchip but he didn't have one. She said they were already closed but she would allow me to pick him up anyways. When I picked up Rocky he was in the officers lap just have a fun old time. She gave me some paperwork for "24PetWAtch" and told me that they do microchipping for $15 one time fee. I scheduled an appointment for this Saturday to have Rocky & Daisy microchipped. I cannot tell you what a wake up call this is for us. Don't get me wrong my husband is a great man but he made a big mistake by not staying outside with the dogs for there potty break. I asked my daught why nobody called me and her reply was "Daddy thought you would have a melt down, so he thought it best to wait until you were home". After I brought Rocky home Daisy lit right back up and was so excited to see him back. This morning my husband made the coffee and as usual took the dogs out for there potty break..I could hear him talking to Rocky saying "Rocky, the grass is not greener on the other side". ;-) My suggestion is to microchip your babies and of course never leave them alone outside. |

| Thanks for posting your story and thank goodness it all turned out okay for the pups and for your husband ( ). I have all of mine micro-chipped with the Home Again brand but the main thing is that I think it is very important to chip our little ones.

| Ohh, I'm glad it turned out good and you got him back in! LOL I'm on acreage too. With lots of woods. I just can't let mine "out the door" and let them go. They would take off to the woods in a flash! Maybe it would be to your advantage if you fenced in a little portion of your property for them. Would give you more piece of mind anyway. Best wishes, |

| So glad to read of the happy ending. I'm one of those "procrastinators" on the microchip issue, have thought about doing it, just never got around to making the appointment. I've read too many stories on here lately of the little furbabies making an escape so I will be checking into that with my vet to have Gage "chipped". He's the only one of the 2 I worry about running off - Gabby is such a scardy "dog", she doesn't venture too far from the back door. Thanks for sharing your story |

| Yes, I as well have put off getting them chipped until now. Many things flashing in my mind such as heart break, fear, $$$$ ;-), and heart break again. When the Animal Control officer said it's as simple as a one time $15 dollar charge...Heck that is well worth it. Rocky was my first Yorkie and I saved many months to be able to afford him. After we got Rocky I was hooked. My family understands how lucky we are that Rocky was found and returned to us. Seems that all the facilites such as Animal Control, SPCA's and even Vet offices scan all dog/cats that are brought in as lost. To me $15 is nothing compared to the over loss it would mean to not have Rocky home with us. |

| Oh thank GOODNESS!! How scary! I bet your husband felt sooooo bad!! Thank goodness it all turned out OK. The poor man may have lived forever in the proverbial dog house if it had not... Microchipping is a great idea.
