| hi! new here - future yorkie owner! hi! my name is melanie, i'm a 28 year old married stay at home mom to 2 kids, ages 6 and 3. we have a silly little mini daschund - my daughter named her lollipop - and a sweet kitty named grace. we live in the country in a teeny house. thanks to the good lord and maybe a little luck, we are purchasing almost 100 acres closeby and building a home this summer. yippee! i have wanted a yorkie for years, and now may be the perfect time to FINALLY have that wish granted. a close friend of dh's has started breeding pomeranians and yorkies. he told me he would love for us to have one. (YAY!) the puppies are 9 weeks now. i told him i wanted a larger yorkie. he suggested one of the males. i havent seen them yet, but i will very soon - can't wait! i have a few questions. do you think a yorkie will be ok with my two other pets? lollipop is very gentle and loving. she is best friends with the cat. LOL she thinks all animals are her friends. grace is very easygoing, lazy even. she spawls out on the kids' bunk bed all day while they're at school, and romps around with the dog all evening. i am mainly concerned with the adjustment period. when we adopted grace, i slowly introduced her to the dog. now they love each other. i have no worries about the kids. they are gentle with animals, especially babies. right now my daughter's favorite thing is to help her daddy feed 8 baby lambs every night. my son (3) is also careful with animals, thank goodness. what things will i need for the puppy? do you have any recommendations? i know i will need a small crate, bed, food, collar, etc. thank you all so much - i am so glad i found this wealth of info! |

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | How old is lollipop? Yorkies are very curious dogs, at least mine is, Kloey is 9 months old and we also have a Husky who is 3 yrs old and a older cat, now the Yorkie and Husky get along wonderful, but the cat and my yorkie don't, Kloey is curios of the cat and the cat is like.. leave me alone! But Kloey has learned to just stay away and so all is good (for now) Yorkies are small dogs, usually 7 pounds is a good weight, if the mom and dad are big, then maybe the pups will be bigger, but normally 7 pounds. I would not want a big yorkie personally. How old will the pup be when you bring him home? Also you need to think about if your going to have him fixed, if not he may spray, I have a friend who has a male yorkie and she is having trouble with this. And of course the female will go into heat. So it just depends on what you want to deal with lol Keep us posted, I can't wait to see your new baby! Yorkies are such sweet loving dogs, mine is just the sweetest little girl. You and your family will just love having a Yorkie! And welcome to YT! |

| we just got our second yorkie (12wks) and our first one is now 9mos. We had a standard poodle (3year old) and they all love each other. my baby yorkie drives the poodle crazy licking her face it is so cute. I think it all depends on the dog but mine seem to love everyone and everything. mommy of prince and diamond |

| lolli is a little over 1 1/2 years old. she loves to play, play, play. LOL she really is very sweet with other cats and dogs, so i guess i have no worries with her. the cat is not quite 1 year old, and the only dog she has seen is lolli. i think that since the puppy will be smaller she might not be frightened. i expect her to actually ignore the puppy in the way only a cat can ignore something. we definitely plan on having the puppy fixed. lolli is spayed and she had no problems. i just sort of want a larger yorkie, because i am actually a little afraid of the teeny ones. LOL are the smaller ones any more prone to accidents or problems? i want this dog solely for a companion, no breeding or showing in our future. gosh, y'all are so nice! |

| hmmm ... sounds like skippy has issues. LOL i do not believe that is the nature of daschunds at all. my sister had 3, and they were always well behaved at the dog park. lolli came to us in need of a home. i never would have picked a mini daschund for us, but we are glad she found her way here. when we got her she fit in the palm of my hand and was almost dead and covered in fleas. now she's fat and happy. maybe that's why she's so sweet - she's grateful.

| My Yorkie, Stormy, gets along very well with most dogs we meet. He's our only dog, but we are considering bringing another dog into our home within the next year. More than likely it will be another Yorkie (as they are my favorite breed). Yes, do post some pictures when you get your new baby! And, congratulations...and good luck! |

| Welcome to YT, and good luck with your new baby, I bet your kids are sooo excited. One thing to watch for with the kids, Yorkies are not easy to hold on to and they will jump out of their arms or off of their laps. So I would suggest having them sit on the floor to hold him, or he could break a leg. Can't wait to see pictures |
