Flying with Yorkie from Newark to Paris Flying with a Yorkie from Newark to Paris Hi everyone. I have a lovely 4 year old Yorkie girl named Diva. This June, we are going to Paris and I want very much to take her. Since we are from Seattle, we will stop over in Newark to visit family, then fly out of there to Paris. The flight is 9 hours. That means that by the time we check in, board, get off the plane in Paris, go thru customs, she would be holding her wee wee for at least 12 hours! How do I do this? Is there anyone who has taught a dog to relieve their dogs on pee pads in the rest room of an airplane? If she is in her purse bag and has to pee, will she be smart enough to releve herself or will she hold it until she bursts? She is afterall in a bag she calls her bed, and most smart dogs dont pee in their beds. What do I do? I am very concerned. Thank you, Angel

A friend of mine went thru this recentley when he went to Italy. His pup was barking like crazy on the plane so he went to the bathroom with a pad and she was fine. He said she was whining a little but that is because she will only do #2 outside! I am lucky. Diezel follows my lead...If we are out all I do is take the pad into the bathroom and sit on the toilet and he goes...lol its cute If there is not toilet around all I have to do is say go potty and usually he does his business. Maybe you can get yours trained before you leave to go potty on command? Good Luck!

| Angel, have you checked all the guidelines and restrictions of flying a pet overseas? There is a lot of paperwork to be filled out, there might be quarantine and other restrictions as well. As it is quite a long flight, please check whether or not she will be able to fly with you in the cabin or will she be flying cargo? It makes a big difference because if she flies cargo, she will have to be in cargo an hour before you check in and it will take an hour to get her out after you have passed through immigration and customs. I've heard many horror stories where pets gets mis-shipped to other countries, they get hurt while being treated like luggage, and some pets don't make the journey. This is also a lot of stress on the wee one, I flew my Yorkie from Taiwan to Hong Kong, although the flight is just under two hours, she was away from me for over six hours, including going through customs, vet checks upon arrival, etc. Brownie was quite shaken and quite different for a few days after the flight.

Thanks for the concern. All is clear with flying a dog under 11 lbs on board. All I need is proof of vacines and health certificate....oh....also money to fly the dog. Angel

Astoria looks so much like my Diva. She is beautiful. Thanks for your advice. Teach me how to train her to go on command on wee pads, especially on a noisy small airplane floor? What kind of wee pads do you use? Also, I am new....how do I get a photo to appear to the left of my posts?
