| Saturday morning Nikko was his usual happy self. In the afternoon, I returned home from grocery shopping and decided to fix myself a snack of cheddar cheese and apple slices. As usual, Nikko was begging so I gave him a small piece of cheese which he has eaten on other occasions without incident. He kept begging and I remembered that some of you give your babies peeled apples as a healthy treat, so I gave him a tiny piece of apple to see if he liked it. It was small, about the size of my pinky nail. Big mistake. About 20 minutes later he started vomiting and and got diarrhea as well. I put him in his crate to try to take a nap and see if he felt better. He wound up soiling his crate. I had to take out the mattress and wash it and it was a huge mess. He vomited a few more times after that and I gave him some rice and boiled chicken to see if that helped. He vomited again. I tried giving him a lick of pepto bismol but he nearly bit my finger off, so that was a bad idea. I feel so guilty for having given him the apple. He was fine. He has since stopped vomiting and is playful and happy but the soft stool is still lingering. I am still giving him boiled chicken and he eats a few of his kibbles but whenever he poops it is soft and light brownish (sorry to be so descriptive). Yesterday I took him to the pet store to get him some diarrhea medicine. The guy told me they ran out of it but commented that Nikko seemed fine because he was so playful and curious. Today I am going to pick up the medication at another pet store. If it doesn't help, I am running with him to the vet. Has anyone had this experience before? Is it normal for him to be pooping like this for 2 days? I feel so guilty and I have learned my lesson. No more table scraps from now on, no matter how pitiful the beggar's face.

| Your not a terrible Mommy. Diahrea usually runs its course in a couple of days but if it doent then its tiem to go to the vet. My dog gets dipped at the vets for mites and every time he is dipped he gets diahrea so stress can cause it too.

| Thank you for your reassuring words. I just feel so guilty because he was fine and then I had to go and ruin everything. He seems his usual self except that he is more clingy than usual. Like he wants to be on my lap more.

| I believe our Yorkies are like humans in that some can tolerate a lot more different types of food, but some just have sensitive stomach that do not tolerate different things. My Westie and my little 5 lb Jasmine seems to be able to eat almost anything and it doesn't bother them. Murphy, who is twice as big as Jasmine seems to have a week stomach and can't tolerate a lot of different things. I cook for our 3 quite a bit. I make a big bowl of chicken and rice every week. I cook a chicken, take it off the bone and mix it with a big bowl of rice that has been cooked in the chicken broth. I also mix some veggies (peas, carrots, in with it. They love it. It will last for several days. Sometimes I vary it by fixing hamburger and rice or turkey and rice. I also give them eggs and usually put a little cheese in when I scramble them. They usually get eggs a couple of times a week. I feed them Biljac frozen dog food when I am out of anything cooked but I have found that Murphy doesn't tolerate the Biljac. He vomits after eating it. I have no idea why but have stopped feeding to him. There have been a few other things he can't eat that the other can. They are all terrible beggars and I can't resist them so I am always giving them bites of whatever I am eating. We went out to eat last night and both had chicken fried steak with gravy. Neither one of us could eat but half of ours so I brought it home to Jasmine and the boys. They loved it. I know I probably shouldn't do that but I just can't help it. |

| You're not a bad mom. Now you know that if you want to play it safe, no table food. Maybe the cheese was too much. Sometimes things develop in time too. Years ago, our yorkie loved apple cores. She would wait til you were finished. eat the core and spit out the seeds. She didn't like the actual apple though. Some yorkies can't tolerate dairy either, but Debbie always eats a little icecream with me too. It's hard not to share with them but I guess we're not doing them any favors. |

| Poor Niko! I am so glad to hear that he is feeling better and I do NOT think that you are a bad mommy. I can't even resist my guinea pigs begging. I'm not sure how I am going to be able to resit my puppy (which, I get in 2 weeks). Which leads to my question: Bosslady gave some good tips on non doggy food snacks. I'd be interested in knowing what some of the rest of you use, but more importantly-how much and how often? My breeder is a vet and she told me that I could give a little hamburger if she is not eating well at first, but to ween her off of it so that she does not get too spoiled. I'm trying my very best to learn all that I can to be a good puppy mommy. Thank you so much! My Lola (probably going to be her name) thanks you too! |

| Your not a terrible mommy, It's hard to look into the eyes of our furbabies and tell them no. I always give in to Princess, it's just to hard not to. Hope Nikko feels better soon.

| YT 5000 Club Member | I don't think you are a bad mom either! Gidget sits around and waits for my son to drop something on the floor so she can eat it up! Chloe hasn't learned that yet but I am sure she will! I don't think they can go all of their lives with out some of our food!
