[Nikko's_human]

Saturday morning Nikko was his usual happy self. In the afternoon, I returned home from grocery shopping and decided to fix myself a snack of cheddar cheese and apple slices. As usual, Nikko was begging so I gave him a small piece of cheese which he has eaten on other occasions without incident. He kept begging and I remembered that some of you give your babies peeled apples as a healthy treat, so I gave him a tiny piece of apple to see if he liked it. It was small, about the size of my pinky nail. Big mistake. About 20 minutes later he started vomiting and and got diarrhea as well. I put him in his crate to try to take a nap and see if he felt better. He wound up soiling his crate. I had to take out the mattress and wash it and it was a huge mess. He vomited a few more times after that and I gave him some rice and boiled chicken to see if that helped. He vomited again. I tried giving him a lick of pepto bismol but he nearly bit my finger off, so that was a bad idea. I feel so guilty for having given him the apple. He was fine. He has since stopped vomiting and is playful and happy but the soft stool is still lingering. I am still giving him boiled chicken and he eats a few of his kibbles but whenever he poops it is soft and light brownish (sorry to be so descriptive). Yesterday I took him to the pet store to get him some diarrhea medicine. The guy told me they ran out of it but commented that Nikko seemed fine because he was so playful and curious. Today I am going to pick up the medication at another pet store. If it doesn't help, I am running with him to the vet. Has anyone had this experience before? Is it normal for him to be pooping like this for 2 days? I feel so guilty and I have learned my lesson. No more table scraps from now on, no matter how pitiful the beggar's face.
