Animal Smiley 019 Some people are just idiots!

Yesterday I took Kloey to the pet store to get her tooth brush and a few things, after wards I had one more stop to make, it was to are local GNC, so I look inside and there were no one else in there so I figured I would bring Kloey in with me, she has always behaved in stores, I hold her and she just sits in my arms and enjoys being around others, so I'm at the register ringing up my purchace and in walks this man and woman, he looks at me and Kloey then says, "ohh I guess I will go get my dog to" so the lady at the counter looks at me and rolls her eyes, and a few seconds later in walks this guy with a Golden Retreiver!
Hello! I'm holding a 6 pound dog, that has a diaper on, and he walks his dog in on a leash!
I wanted to say to him, If I jump off a brige, are you going to follow me!
Some people, I swear!

Well, if the store let you in and not him, they could get in trouble for discrimination.

Yes he sure did! They walked in and he saw Kloey in my arms and said he was going to go get his dog and thats just what he did. There was no sign on the front door that says no pets aloud, but still she is small, she was in my arms, she never touched the ground so what does it matter if they go into a store? I understand restarunts, cause food and all, but even if you have a carrier for them, why cant they go into walmart and etc... ?

I have been kicked out of Target, Kmart etc because they have food. I don't go in these stores to buy food. Fred Meyer, I worked there for 9 yr....they were not allowed to kick you (they had a lawsuit over a therapy dog) out then in the past 6 mo they changed the rules, no more dogs allowed.

I can understand the whole "Can't bring dogs into the supermarket b/c of all the food." But get this: I brought Baby into Shoprite (supermarket) once. I know I shouldn't have, but anyway... The manager came up to me and said: Mam, you can't bring a dog in here. It will contaminate the food, and then I'll have to throw out all the food in the place. THEN he goes onto say: Now, if your dog were a seeing eye dog, that would be okay. So, my question is this...if a Yorkie can "contaminate" all the food, why can't a seeing eye dog? I'm not saying seeing eye dogs shouldn't be allowed, I'm just saying, they are both dogs, and he shouldn't have used that excuse! DUH!! Just tell me, "Get your dog out!" I would have had more respect for that!

Confused

It does not make any sence to me, whenever I take Kloey anywhere she has a diaper on, so shes not going to wee-wee anywhere, and if the dog is in your arms or a pet carrier, how are they going to contaminate the food? I mean, it's not like we take them to the food section and let them touch the food
There
just jealous cause they dont have a Yorkie!!! hehehe

My husband went into a Hair Cuttery the other day just to see how long the wait was so Pita and I went in to just to hear the wait time. She never left my arms and this women was havin a fit about gettin the dog out of there it's a state law blahblahblah... so we just all left and he didn't get his hair cut that day. Some people are just too hysterical. Home Depot always kicks us out too. Now which is worse, smelly sweaty men or sweet lil yorkies?

The remark about the seeing eye dog is so inane, just because it's a service dog means it's not a dog??? So stupid. Service dogs walk on the floor too not like the furbabies in our arms and purses!

With the growing trend of people wanting to take their dogs in public we will be seeing more and more "No Pets Allowed" signs posted is my guess.

I will continue to "sneak" Ransom into places (Schatzie too large). I guess I have issues w/ too many establishments posting rules that don't make sense and i find that Ransom is cleaner than most humans I see out and about.

I shake my head in confusion knowing that I am bringing in more germs on the bottom of my shoes, than Ransom is hiding in my purse carrier.

I have yet to be asked to leave but I am sure that day will come.

And in regards to BabyFidgette's post saying the store manager advises the Yorkie will contaminate all the food is insane. This person doesn't have a clue whatsoever. Ugh!!

Some people are just ridiculous! I had Jaxon in his carry bag and we went into the Liquor store. He is so quiet and you'd never even know he's there! One lady really gave me a look and I was just waiting for her to say something. I'll take him where I want - I figure he's in the carrier and not walking around so no harm done.

I guess I have to disagree. You can't compare a service dog with a pet. I'm disabled and, while I don't have a service dog, I do understand the need because I have to use a walker the way a blind person uses a service dog to go out. The Americans with Disabilities Act requires the admission of service dogs to establishments. These are perfectly trained dogs and, frankly, there just aren't that many people who use them so it's not like there are lots of them in stores all of the time.

If SOME dogs are permitted in stores, though, then ALL pets have to be admitted to stores since, I'm sure, every dog lover could make an argument for their pet. And while some pet owners are responsible, many are not!

As big a pet lover as I am, I would not want to go to a grocery store where there were dozens of pets. I had a chihuahua in a carrier lunge at me in a public place because I was close to its owner. That thing was an inch from biting me. I cannot imagine being in the produce aisle selecting vegetables with lots of people who are carrying dogs in close quarters. They could lunge and snap. Plus, there are many small children in stores who could approach the dog and be bitten. Many people have animal allergies, too. There are just too many reasons why dogs in stores can be aproblem.

I enjoy taking my dogs to Petco and that's "our time." We get ready, we go and enjoy, and then I bring them back. I schedule Petco outings for times when I have no other errands to run.

I agree that the other guy with the big dog behaved like an idiot; that's a really good indication, though, of what would happen if some dogs were allowed in stores.

Stores and other public places generally have rules - either pets are allowed or they aren't. These same rules need to apply across the board to everyone. How can a store or public place differentiate between different breeds and different size dogs???? Most of these rules have nothing to do with what breed or size your dog is. They often are following Health Department regulations that don't allow pets in whatever type establishment they are operating.

I know that a lot of us think that because our dogs are small - we can just take them anyplace. Not true!!! We should only take our dogs into places where pets are allowed. I feel very strongly about this and have never approved of "sneaking" our little guys into places where pets are not allowed.

If I were the golden retriever owner, I probably would not have gone out and brought my dog into the store. But, I certainly agree with his thinking that if your dog was allowed -- his was too. Also - he may have just been making a point. I certainly wouldn't call him an "idiot." He may have been a very nice man with a well behaved dog.

I'm sorry but my yorkie is not a "dog" she's a baby! She is probably cleaner then most kids that are allowed into a store and she is much more behaved then some kids, my baby don't throw a fit if she dont get her new stuffed toy that she is just dying to rattle around in her mouth, she don't throw herself down on the floor and kick and scream like some of these kids now days do.
I strongly feel if my baby is in a carrier or my arms, then she has all the right to be in a store. I would never take her where there is food, but if I need to run into an office to pay a bill, or go to the post office to mail something and if she wants to go, by golly she is going to go in with me!

That's fine, but be prepared to be thrown out now and then! Businesses are allowed to prohibit dogs from their premeses. That's just the way it is.
