| good question! I would like to know the answer to this also. I took Edie to a friend's house where there was a pool. I got in the pool and I put her on the step, which was under about an inch of water. She froze--did not move an inch. I decided not to force her, and took her out of the pool. I hear some Yorkies LIKE swimming, and I would like Edie to learn in case we get a house with a pool when we move. If we did have a pool, I would have to ensure that we had a fence around it that was Yorkie-proof OR I could teach her how to swim and rig up some sort of ramp or apparatus that would allow her to get out of the pool easily in case she fell in. Cindy (livingdustmops) rescues Yorkies in Tucson, and she will not adopt out pups to people with swimming pools. Maybe she knows something we dont know.... |

| I don't know yet if Mitzi is a swimmer or not. We live at the beach and in the summer I would like to take her. It's too cold at the moment in the water so I can't tell which way she'll go. LOL! A ramp sounds like a great idea, easy exit when Edie is tired. I wonder if you can buy doggy water wings? Or a floatation device of some kind to help teach them not to be afraid. (Also I would worry less if I knew she'd float not sink!) |

| Edie does have a life vest by Outward Hound. We had a large boat that we lived on for periods of time. Edie wore the life vest when we were underway. It never got wet, though! |

| We have an inground pool and last summer I took Louie in with me a couple of times. He wanted to get out right away though. He did love floating around on the tube with me though, just didnt like being all the way in the water. Im gonna bet that Bella will LOVE it though. We'll see.

I think you are okay if you always have a life preserver on them around water and I have heard wonderful stories of people swimming with their Yorkies in a pool with a life preserver. I don't think for the most part Yorkies love water like a lab does - how many of our dogs will go outside when it is raining . If you have a pool and a Yorkie I think you have to be just as careful as if you had a two year old. You need to have a fence around the pool and also a device that will sound an alarm if something fell into the pool. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

| Princess loves to go swimming! We have a large family pool, I take her in with me. She has a little boat she rides in too, just loves it. We did buy her a small childrens pool, in the morning I fill it up, and by the afternoon the water is just perfect for her. She has her toys in there and plays all day. She loves water, the small pool is perfect for her, because she can play with her toys. In the big pool, she's in her boat or in my arms. Still fun, but she really has a blast in the small one.

| I have tried putting Lady in the bath instead of showering her and she stands there picking up her feet as if saying "eeewww! eeewwww! eeewww!" lol. She really doesnt like any water to be above her elbows and if it doesnt touch her head, even better! lol. |

| I have a swimming pool at home and Kobe does not like swimming in it. We will put him on the rafts and let him float around. He is not the most graceful swimmer either. He would rather just run around the edge. And he is very careful and has never fallen in. |

| I really doubt I would take Gizmo swimming, he already hates to get wet, even in the bath. I may take him out to a pool, and see if he wants to get it. But I wouldn't make him of course.

| Cassie loves the water!!! We have a beatuiful beach where we take her, I leave her collar on, her leash and then go into the water with her. She will swim around and then run back to shore. I never make her swim , I always let her do her own thing so she is not scared. I go out to just where she can not touch and she follows me, swims around me and then heads in to shore. She will do this over and over again. When she is done we grab her wrap her in a towel and then sit on the shore for awhile till she dries. After realizing how much she loves the water, I put the small swimming pool down and filled it with water. She just LOVES it. First thing she does when she is hot in the summer is goes and lies in the pool , jumps out runs around and then gets in again. I have to watch her that when we are going some place that she doesn't get all wet for the car. Boy they sure are fun!!! |

| Bruce LOVES SWIMMING! He has a little kiddie pool, since the grumps in our development do not want him in the big pool, and I take him to the lake all the time, I will float on an air mattress and he swims around me. He is pretty good too, it always impresses all the people who think only big dogs can swim! I of course always put him in a life jacket!!!
