| I'm New Hi everyone, I am new to this board.. I just got a Yorkie puppy on Saturday and I am in need of some advice on how to train it... I have spoken to many people and have gotten MANY different ideas.. I was wondering, what worked for everyone else?? I was told to keep her in her cage for 3 weeks and let her poop and pee in there... after 3 weeks, i was told to use wee-wee pads and then take her out... The breeder told me the cgae is like a diaper.. Any advice is appricated Brooke |

| I would not let her go in the cage b/c then she would probably do that later, it might confuse her. I would just stick to one method.

| Welcome, I am also new. I just recently had success training my pup. It took me 2 1/2 months. My advice is to be consistent. I have never heard to let your pup pee/poop in his crate. Some people crate train, but i did not. I use the pee pads. i have one in my living room and one in my room. Whenever he would go on the carpet i would hold him there and tell him no and act very mad and dissapointed. You just have to learn when he has to go and put him on the pad every hour or so and tell him your command word (go pee). It took me forever and fustrated me but he only has about 1 accident a day now. When ever he goes on the pad praise him and give a small treat. But if you are home all day try crate training. hope this helps. Hang in their. You can do a seach in the forum and get all the past great advice that others gave. good luck |

| I am getting my puppy in may and I will be using the puppy pads to train him. I am using them because I will be in an apartment and it would be easier that way. it just depends on where you are living and the weather. (if it is cold all the time i would use puppy pads becuase they will not want to go outside in the cold). Good Luck with whatever you decide.

| Welcome Brooke, Dodger Dog, and ScrappysMom. I don't really have any good advice, I just wanted to say hello and to welcome you to YT!! I have had dogs inside in the past, but it has been a while since they were trained and actually, it was when I lived at home and I think my Grandmother worked with them mainly! We also trained them to go outside. For some reason, I think that seems a little easier, I don't know why. Anyway, I had a yorkie for a few days (long story - she passed away) and obvioulsy I didn't get far working with her, but she was starting out well using her pee pee pads. We are getting another this weekend so I"ll probably be asking for help, too!

| I use pee pads for all my dogs. I love them you take them to it I use go potty and when they do give them a treat they will do anything for a treat. never let one go in its crate . it will learn to do that to me a crate is to either take them somewhere or for a bed.

| Welcome to the board. I don't think you are supposed to let them go potty in the crate. Everything I've heard or read about crate training is the opposite. You are supposed to section off the crate leaving only enough room for them to be comfortable. Dogs do not like to be near their poo/pee so they make a fuss when it's time to go rather than do it and be stuck by it. Once they are trained and let you know when it is time to go out, you give them access to the whole crate. Of course this method is only possible if you are going to be there when they are in the crate. I am far from an expert though so anyone correct me if I am wrong. The best advice I can give is be patient. They are babies. Some puppies won't get full bladder control until 3 to 6 months. Good luck.

| I would not suggest letting your puppy pee or poop in the crate. It will only confuse her and TEACH her that that is the place to go potty. Immediately start with the pee pads. Be sure to praise and reward her when she goes on the pads so she knows she is doing the right thing. Hope all goes well! Oh yeah, crate training isn't ba, just not training that the crate is the potty! Putting your baby in the crate at night and for intervels during the day is a wonderful idea and really helps in other areas.

| Welcome to YT Brooke. Well everyone has give you excellent advise. The key is to be consistent and be patience. When you see her that she is going to pee or poop take her to the wee wee pad that way way she will learn where she is supposed to go. Good luck. |
