| Pets when shipped in Cargo... my brother just helped his girlfriend move along with her 3 cats. they each carried one cat in cabin and one had to be checked as cargo. they needed a health certificate for the cats for travel, which is totally understandable. but the one in cargo had to state that it's okay for the cat to be in temperatures below 45 degrees !!!! Evidently the "temperature controled cargo area suitable for pet travel" is kept at 33 degrees!!!! they stuffed the kennel with lots of pillows, blankets, towels and sweaters for the cat. but they said there was a puppy being shipped via cargo too with nothing in the kennel, not even a single thin towel! she felt badly for her cat but even worse for that puppy! it's no wonder some puppies being shipped may be sick on arrival. just a thought to those who travel and considered having their furbaby in cargo... best to make reservations in advance and have the little one safe in the cabin. |

| Poor puppy. I hope he is all right.... The cat made it okay though, right? I have relatives that live in a different state that I'm considering visiting this summer... It's about a 17hr drive so I'd much rather fly.... I was looking at different airlines to see what their pet policies were. A couple (can't remember which ones) don't allow pets in the cabin at all. They will ONLY accept them as cargo! Nuh uh. Not for my baby. I'd rather pay the extra $100 each way and have her next to me the whole way! |

| yeah, the cat made it alright. but he had a sad, defeated look on his face when he got picked up from cargo and basically hide behind a couch for the remainder of the evening. sooo sad! |

| The vet certificates I have seen say the animal can withstand temps down to 45 and up to 80 something.. |

| It doesn't mean that the puppy was in that cool of a temp for the entire trip. It just means that while it was outside of the plane and the cargo facility, it could withstand temps within that range. While the plane is in the air, they are in a temperature controlled cargo area. Fear not, the puppy wasn't THAT cold.

I have flown with Edie on Delta, US Air, United, Independence Air (now bankrupt), and I think American. They all allow pets in the cabin. | |

| I got my baby because my breeder refused to ship her! There was a lady in Pennsylvania and a lady in the U.K. (who were willing to spend top dollar)! (The breeder was in Oregon) I was the only one willing to drive down to get her - and I did! The breeder said that if she shipped her, in July, they would have had a dead puppy by the end of the trip. She said they sometimes leave the "cargo" out on the tarmat for hours!

| The don't let pets in the cabin on international flights and when I flew from Taiwan to Hong Kong, my baby was in the cargo. But since it was only an hour and a half flight, she was perfectly fine. A little shaken, but no real harm.

| Any airline that allows animals in cargo should be temp controlled... At 30,000 feet, everything is freezing...so climate control of some kind is a must! The summer problems are mostly due to pooches being left out on (black, heat absorbing) tarmac...waiting to be loaded or worse, transferred to a plane... Brenda |
