| Pooping in corners Help!!! My 13 week old puppy refuses to poop on the paper. I will sit with him for a long time placing him back on the paper but he will run away to the corner to poop. Any suggestions on how to get him to poop in the right place. |

| Maybe try putting his poop on the paper after he goes in the corner. So then he will want to go back in the same place he went before and see that its on the paper and hopefully learn to go there. |

| Luckily my 9 week old came home already pee pad trained but before we got him we didn't know if he was trained or not so we got this housebreaking aid from the pet store called Out! You are supposed to spray it on wherever you want them to potty. I have not tried it as mine was already trained but it was suggested to me by a store crew member. You can also try and get something to get the poop smell out of the corners as his scent will make him want to go back there. |

| poop in the corners I've noticed my Bella trying to poop behind things in the cornerrs too. If I get her outside she is fine but if I miss the que she will head for the corners of the room. I think this is to hide it because she knows it is wrong. She is twelve weeks. |

| corner pooping This is ironic to be seeing this topic now. My little one does go on her pad but yesterday, for some strange reason, she went behind a chair and pooped. I caught her too late. She ran behind real fast and did it. New question: today I came home and saw poop and urine in front of a the pad. I am wondering if because the pad seemed kinda full from the day that maybe she didn't use it because it was too dirty and there was not any clean places? Any ideas?- Kathy Quote:

| Kathy, I have heard that's true. If the pad gets "too full", they won't use it any more..

| My little boy is shy when he poops and always tries to go and hide under or behind somehting. I have put the pad inside a covered basket like a litter box where he can have his privacy when he does his business. |

| We found that Toto was very particular about her wee wee pad. She is pretty much fully trained but will still sometimes have an "accident" if she is in an unfamiliar place or really stressed! We have learned to watch her closer when we are in these situations. She also will not use her pad if it's dirty!! We call her "Miss Prissy Paws"!! My routine is pretty much ... put a clean pad down [I also keep a supply of pads cut into 4 equal little squares] ... when she goes pee, I put the little square on the spot and repeat this throughout the day ... if there is poop, I simply pick it up with a piece of toilet paper and flush it! This always gives her a clean pad and cuts down on the cost! She is happy and we are too. One interesting thing we have found, now that she is older, if we have to leave her alone and she has to stay in her X-pen ... even though there is plenty of space for everything she needs, she will not eat/drink, pee or poop until we get back! It's routine ... she happily "greets" us when we return ... zips around the room and rushes back to her pen, pees/poops, gets a quick drink of water and wants to play!!! She will sometimes use a pad a couple of times if I don't notice that it needs to be "refreshed" but she tries to let me know that I am "lax" in my duties!!!

| corner pooper Thanks for all of the dialogue. I like the idea that someone had about putting clean squares on top of dirty spots. But i wonder if they pull at those pieces. How many pads do you have around the house? ow many in your pen? I decided last night that maybe she knows wher and how to use the pad but I am not convinced that she doesn't know not to go on the floor. Last night I decided to go back to the old traditional crate training. I put her in the crate last night. She woke me every hour and half to go potty. I let her out and she went. Today i decided to do the same and to come home mid-day (figuring that there would be an accident to clean up. I decided that if I crate train, versus leaving her in a pen with a pad, I could teach her WHERE to go. (I will go back to the pen when I am SURE that she knows to only use that). Anyway, I put her in at 7 am and returned at 12:45pm to a clean crate. I was shocked. I guess she yiped last night because she knew I would let her out. I think tonight I will not put her in the bedroom but leave her where her crate (pen) was during the daytime. Wish me luck. Any suggestions pass them on please- Kath Quote:

| Pee pads Hi, I get my Yorkie in 3 weeks and I read on here every night and find out more and more information. I have a question about these pee pads. I have never had to use these before with my other dogs. I crate trained them. With these pee pads, don't they stink up the house with urine? How do you let the dogs go on them several times? I can understand picking up poopie quickly but the urine seems like it would smell! Am I misunderstanding the purpose of these? You need to do one or the other right? Crate or pee pads. What do you do when you have company over with all these pee pads all over your house? And if they are pee pad trained, how do you take them places outside with out pee pads. It seems outside trained would make more sense. Please advise me on this, I am not sure what to do? Thanks, Leigh |

| Training Hi there. You sound like me. I also always crate trained and took my dogs outside. With this little one, I made (make) myself nuts because of her being so small. I have gone the whole gammet with her. I started in the kitchen, then went to a pen, slept with her and now a crate. I agree that the pads are a pain (expensive, sometimes they go on it and other times half is off). I agree that a pen (or very large crate) with a pad and a bed is the easiest. they will learn to use the pad and sleep in the ped. My problem with that is that I found that she does know how to use the pad but I am unsure if she knows not to use the floor. I also noticed that the pad gets dirtier quicker because she is not holding it in. If I am not home to change it quick enough then she will go on the floor in front of it. I wasn't there to tell her no. I have finally decided to use a crate (I put a divider in it) during the night and daytime hours that I am not there. I just started this two nights ago. The first night she woke me at 1, 2:30, and 5 am. I took her out of the crate and put her on her pad (which I placed in a dog litter pan). I kept telling her to go potty and she did. I gave her a reat (which she is finally taking) and I put her back into the crate. I also did this during the day. I put her in at 7am and returned at 12:45pm. To my surprise it was kept dry. After that I kept her with me. I brought her back to work and put her on the pad when she was itchy and she went (on command). Last night went a little better. I put her in the crate at 11. She whined to come out at 3 and then at 5 am. She was raring to go at 5am. Dry all night. I took her outside last night. I have been taking her outside to go mostly and use the pad if it is raining or real cold out. This morning she urinated outside, came in and ran around and then ran onto her pad and pooped. I was so excited. Oh course, just when you think you are on a roll....... Today I came home at 12:45pm and she had messed her crate. Bummer. Just when I thought I was somewhere. SO like you, I keep asking myself, should I just ue the pen or an over-sized crate? But..I don't want to give up on this. My goal is for her to hold i longer so hat I know that she can hold it through the day and at night. I also want to know that when she is walking around she KNOWS where to go. I like tohave her going on command. that way I know when it is ok to travel her. I also ask the question about the pee pads. How many? Where? I think I am going to keep one down stairs (near back door and in same room as crate) and one upstairs in the area between bedrooms and dining room. My only question about that is how will she beable to know to run to it when she is in he bedroom at night (and hopefully sleeping with a kid or us)? That is, if she can get off the bed. I had her sleep up there in the beginning. She went on the bottom of th bed. That was when I set up th pen. As for your question, yes, outside training is always better if you can do it. I think they are capable of holding it (I hope). I just hope she proves to be like every other dog and not like laying in it. I also hope, and wonder, can they hold it like a "normal" sized dog. The pen was taking over my house (lol). In conclusion, I do like the idea of outside and if you want (like I am) put a pad out for when she really has o go and you miss her ques. I take her outside and put her on the pad when it is cold, rainy, etc. SHe won't go outside in those weather conditions. A REAl princess....by her own doing (even though she has a rhinestone colar. lol). - Kath P.S. Sorry so long. Quote:
