| Danger!Sleeping arrangement! Dear Forum, I just want to warn (inform) this group of bonified Yorkie Terrier lovers that it is UNSAFE to sleep with your Yorkie (at least a 3 -4 month old one). THis is what has happened. I purchased a baby (12 week old ) from a breeder close to home in Bham ALabama. There were only two pups born of this mommy, both by c-section. My daughter took one (on Dec 3rd or so ) and the other pup was held till CHristmas EVe for this person's 16 yr old daughter. WEll, last night the baby was SMOTHERED to death by the 16 yr old!!! She was letting her sleep with her in the bed!!! The last thing i told my daughter was "Dont let that baby sleep with you...... you might smother it!" My daughter then rolled her eyes as if she wasn's listening, but aparently she was..... the baby BELLA sleep with her but in her CRATE!!!!! Bella is aprox 16 wks now and just 2 lbs 5 oz. THank goodness I am a overbearing Grand dog mother!!! I just want other owners of new pups to know it does happen and it is devastating!!! If this is not posted in the right place, sorry. DEnise |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | It's easy to do with heavy sleepers. With my babies, I've always had them sleep with me since the time they were 8 weeks old but for whatever reason, I'm not willing to risk that with London and she's 8 weeks today. She can stay in the x-pen just a little longer. Thanks for the warning!

| Baby is a little over 4 months and I've slept with her since she was 3 months. She's not a "teacup" so she weighs the normal Yorkie weight. She's over 5lbs now. Anyway, I'm a very very light sleeper and wake up at the drop of a hat. Sorry for this loss.

| Teddy has slept with us from the day we brought him home at 8 weeks. I could see that happening...for instance I would never have laid him by my husband because I know he moves a lot at night. Me on the other hand from being a Mom and having a baby in bed from time to time I don't move. I knew he was there to the point if he moved a muscle I was up immediately. Thanks for the warning though it's always a good thing to think about...

| Pixie would be toast in our bed! If we did not smother her she would break her neck jumping off of it! Its way high! Its a no go for us, I am not a fan of dog pee on my sheets.... We do, however, bring her into bed for about 20 mins for cuddle time in the am....

| Oh no that's horrible! Layla started sleeping with me at about 11 or 12 weeks because I couldn't stand her crying all night anymore. She sleeps on my pillow though, right overtop of my head, so unless i do a headstand or something in my sleep she should be okay!

| I'm so sorry to hear this. We make Izzy sleep in her playpen with her fluffy bed. She's only 10 and a half weeks old and weighs less than 2lbs, I don't want to risk it at all. Eventually when she's MUCH bigger I hope to let her be able to sleep in the bed, but until then I just CAN'T take that chance.

| What a tragic story. That is why i didn't let Olivia sleep with us until she was older and a little meatier. (Well, that and I didn't want any accidents on the bed.) She slept with us the first night in the hotel and I woke up whenever the wind changed directions because I was so nervous about her. We were both too nervous about her that we didn't get a good sleep. Now, though, she sleeps right up next to me and her daddy (usually between us ), but I feel a lot better about it since she's a lot bigger than the 2 lbs she was when she came home. |

| That's so horrible to hear. I don't let my Logan sleep with us. He was always a bigger yorkie so he woulda probably been alright, but between my husband and I and the cat there's not a lot of room for anymore plus he's not such a little guy anymore. Also I read that if you let them sleep with you it confuses the dog about who the alpha is.

YT 5000 Club Member | Awww...that is soooo sad! I am sorry for their loss! I have to say too that I have let Gidget and Chloe sleep in our bed without any problems! I hope it stays that way too!
