| New menber seaking guidance Dear YT members, I am thrilled to introduce myself but sadly I join this special community with a broken heart. MAX the love of my life passed away on June 29th of this year after being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. I look forward to sharing the 14.5 glorious years that Max graced my life + I would like to share the knowledge I gained regarding this cruel and aggressive disease. It is commonly known by veterinarians that 75% of the kidney functions could be lost by the time it finally shows in the blood work of the patient. There are many challenges ahead but some incredible groundbreaking research is currently being conducted so there is much hope. No words could ever do justice regarding the love we shared and what he meant to me. My family and all those he touched on a daily basis are all struggling with the immense loss and the enormous void he left behind in all our lives. He simply was the puppy all animal lovers dream of. He had that wonderful Yorkshire Terrier loving nature that never wavered, a gorgeous silky coat of gold, brown and black that often stopped by passers wanting to say hi to him. He lived for his daily walks as he loved nature and found other animal behavior fascinating. Once he and I stumbled upon two birds fighting over a worm - Max was mesmerized and watched the entire incident until their was victory. As you may have assumed by now I am finding the loss of Max very challenging and at times finding it hard to live my life without him. All those affected by Max's passing have been so immensely supportive of me investing in a puppy again. I remain hopeful that while my moral compass fails me I can count on fellow YT members to ever so graciously guide me in finding another puppy to fill this huge void and sense of loss. Max was a big boy by Yorkie standards - his adult weight was a healthy 15 pounds. I am fully aware that the larger of the breed are quite rare but I firmly believe and trust that my joining YT will steer me in the right direction. According to Max's breeder these puppies weigh around 4 to 5 lbs at 9 to 10 weeks old. A puppy with that weight will match Max's adult weight - apparently they are referred to as Teapot Yorkies - simply delightful description! To support my search I will include some images of Max - they resonate with his purity of soul and loving nature. I look forward to meeting you all in good time. Best regards, Fernando |

| Hello! I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my beloved Callie June 11th. It is extremely hard. I feel lucky because I have 3 other babies to keep me going. All of mine have been bigger. I got lucky with 3 of them just being bigger but I knew my last one was bigger before getting because it was one of the reasons the breeder couldn’t get rid of him. My Callie when healthy was 17 pounds. My other 3 are 16, 15 and 14 pounds. It’s not so much that the bigger ones are rare it’s that in order to be considered a reputable breeder by most people’s standards you only breed to get the standard which is not to exceed 7 pounds. There are people who breed for bigger yorkies but whether they are reputable is anyone’s opinion I guess.

| I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my precious girl, Gigi 2 1/2 years ago. The loss isn't as raw as it was then, the empty void she left is still present. She was my everything. She was special needs as well, she had liver shunt... she was 11 years and 11 months when she went to the bridge. There are several of us here that know this pain, so don't feel alone. i don't know that it gets better, but it gets different. I have a new baby who will be 14 weeks old tomorrow. He's been home a week and a half. He is rotten! and i love him to death! I hope you find your new little pup soon! |

| I am so very sorry for your loss. A new baby will help you heal. All my pups were over standard size, my girls who are now passed weighed in at 9 Lbs, two at 13 Lbs my last was a whopping 17 Lbs. I have a rescue boy that weighs 12 Lbs. Finding a bigger yorkie will be difficult as all "reputable" breeders breed for the standard which is to not exceed 7 Lbs. Unfortunately many larger yorkies come from back yard breeders that do no health checks on their mating pair. Many of these (BYB) know of someone that has a male or female and it is....hey you have a male, I have a female, lets mate them and make lots of money when they sell. Many larger yorkies also come from puppy mills that come with many health issues. That being said, is not to say, there may a reputable breeder that "can" have a larger than standard size pup in a litter. I must add, PLEASE stay away from Craigs list. Although you what a bigger baby, what is most important you get a healthy baby, one that comes with no genetic defects. Good luck in your quest to find your perfect sweetie.

| I see you are from NYC, I am a former, born and raised in the Bronx. Keep away from ALL Brooklyn breeders, these are not "breeders" these are "brokers" that buy litters of puppy mill dogs, all various breeds and mixed breeds now called "designer" dogs. Lancaster Pennsylvania, nothing but puppy mills, it's a buyer beware.

| I am so sorry for your loss of Max. I imagine many of us very much relate and I think we all went through the loss and pain differently. I never thought I could love another dog after my first Yorkie passed but figured out there was room in my heart for another and another. What I did figure out is each dog has its own personality and looks and I have enjoyed the journey of each new pup. I wish you all the happiness in the world as you begin that new journey also.

| Hello I found your story very heartfelt and touching. Just wanted to share that although our fur baby is 2 years old and it's our first dog. Our family and friends just adore her so I can understand your feelings. We have grown to love her and treasure her each day goes by and can't imagine life without her today. Since joining YorkieTalk Forum I've learned so much from this wonderful community. There's a wealth of information that is so informative and challenging to learn. Thank you for talking about the kidney disease to give me an awareness to learn more and bringing this important subject up. I want to learn more to prevent this from happening to our dog if possible. Max sounds like a wonderful dog and he gave you and your family wonderful memories. I hope that you can find happiness again with another but of course it won't be the same as Max. He will forever be in your memories and I'm share he's watching over you from the Rainbow Bridge and smiling down at you with his adoring and loving eyes. We look forward to seeing images of Max. Take care. |
