Default Vet frustrations

I figured yíall would understand this more then some of my friends. Well right now you canít go in the vets office but they are not coming out to get them either. There is a small room like thing at my vets office where you go into it through a door from outside and then take a few steps and you open another door to go into the the waiting area. Well they have you put your pet in there and leave them and they come and get them. This was not a huge deal when Joey and Penny went to get their vaccines because they are well adjusted and had each other. Well in a week and a half Ollie has to get his bordatella. I can not leave Ollie like that. He is very timid and easy frightened. I have spent lots of money at the trainer and a lot of time getting him to a functioning level when we are out and he is completely fine at home but shuts down at the vet. It will terrify him to leave him in that room like that. Iím going to talk to them when it gets closer to see if they are letting people in yet or if they can send someone out to take him. If they canít I will just hold off. Itís not like there are any pet events happening which is the main reason I get it. If it does become an issue I can go buy bordatella at the farm store and give it to him if I have too. I just canít risk that set back and or destroy him like that. One of the receptionist at the vets office shared a thing on her Facebook saying if you donít trust your vet enough to send your pet in without you then you need a new vet. It kind of ticked me off because you donít expect a child or baby to go into the doctors office alone so why a helpless animal who canít tell you if something happened would be ok. And for the record I donít trust anyone 100% with my babies. Frustrating. He is due for Lyme in July so hopefully things will be better by then.

This is such a stressful time for everyone, I am sorry that you have to face this issue. I completely understand that Ollie will be turned around by leaving him alone...even if for a few moments. Unfortunately, a fearful experience can have a lasting effect on our little ones. Hopefully things will open up a little in the coming weeks, and your vet will agree to send someone out to pick up Ollie. You are such a sensitive person who takes into account the personality of each of your babies. I hope that your vet will agree to accommodate Ollie!

I am sure your vet knows of Ollies drawbacks, and will make an exception in your case and have someone come out to get him. I agree with joy on fearful events leave a lasting affect on these fur babies. You worked to hard on Ollie gaining trust when out, not to have it flushed down the toilet leaving him totally alone even if its just a minute or two. Maybe things will change by time he needs his bordatella shot. Stressful times for everyone but, when it comes to our babies its like a crises.

I took Gidget to the Vet Friday for her annual checkkup and shots. Walked right into office, was taken immediately to an examing room, Tech came in and took her to be weighed. Brought her back, Vet came in and they did the usual and gave her the shots. Saw no one else in the waiting room. Left after paying bill. No problem. Took her for grooming a little while ago. Groomer said she took her cat to a different Vet. They came out to the car, took the cat and brought her back after exam. Don't know why the difference.

Some states and counties within those states have started reopening local businesses. My state Pennsylvania, 3/4 is open, all small local businesses are operating. My county however is still on lock down. Per our governor, my county will reopen when we are down to 50 new virus cases per 100,000 residents. They have a guesstimate of opening June 4th. Can be before if virus cases drop or later if it increases, so all states are not fully opened for business.

It sucks right now for sure. Everyone is trying to do their best. I'm glad my vet has been so great and accommodating. They come out to your car to talk to you (we are required to wear a mask) and they also take your dog either through your car window or if they're a bigger dog they open the car door and get them out and walk them in for you. But they come out to your car window to speak to you about the results and they also let your dog wait in the car with you if you are waiting for results such as bloodwork etc.

For something like bordatella, I'd 100% opt not to get it. It's not essential. No question would I choose not to make my dog go through that for something non-essential.

As for the vet quote. I do trust my vet to take my dog into the back. I realize that some things need to be done back there and I do believe that a lot of times, the dog is better without the owner present. There are certain things where that is not the case - like when Jackson got his echocardiogram (he HATES being flipped on his back or side, he is NOT a dog who easily "surrenders" if you will) and it was way better for me to be there with him so he didn't completely wig out. I also know my vet would allow me to be with him for certain procedures if it made it easier on Jackson or benefitted him. But I do think if you are that untrusting of your vet that you worry about them handling your dog in the back inappropriately that maybe it IS time for a new vet. I don't really trust anyone with my dogs either and it's why I don't use daycares or boarding facilities but a veterinarians office is a place I really have to trust that they are doing the right thing and I don't ever question my vet in this case because I have found one that I trust.

I think the whole vet thing has me the most stressed out of any of this stuff. I thought about having my trainer write a letter but not sure that would make much deference.

I donít want to break the rules and get into politics but sadly thatís not happening here and may not for a long time. The Maryland Veterinarian Board put out the recommendations that no clients except for Euthanasia should be allowed in the building. Groomers also in my county can not groom unless there is a letter from a vet.

I don’t mind them taking them in the back although because I helped there and stuff they do most of it in the room and I hold or assist when necessary. I do ask them to do the anal glands in the back lol most just Penny’s because they are so bad. Mine all behave very well with or with out me but I do know what you are saying. Due to one of the things they did without permission with Callie I am a little gun shy but switching isn’t an option right now. I mostly get bordatella because of the pet events and I know it could make Callie very very sick if she got it.

Default Suggestion

I know your frustrations and can understand the issue. Luckily my vets' staff come outside to take the animals in when a room is available for use.

Some Pet Stores offer vaccinations. I read an article that Petco is doing vaccinations at some of their locations by appointment. Since Ollie just needs the Bordatella shot would going to a Pet Store for it be a possibility?

I have to board Emma next weekend and the vets office asks that we call first and they'll come get the dog. I would feel uncomfortable with their proposal Taylor but I think it's cool if you ask them. If the timing is short, Ollie may not have any relapse in behavior

I never like the deal where they take my dog out of my sight!
I am the only protection she has and that is my job!

Well I canceled the appointment. I just hope and pray by July when he is due for Lyme that at least one person can go it. I donít know why they didnít make some kind of plan for the dogs that require special attention.
