It sucks right now for sure. Everyone is trying to do their best. I'm glad my vet has been so great and accommodating. They come out to your car to talk to you (we are required to wear a mask) and they also take your dog either through your car window or if they're a bigger dog they open the car door and get them out and walk them in for you. But they come out to your car window to speak to you about the results and they also let your dog wait in the car with you if you are waiting for results such as bloodwork etc.
For something like bordatella, I'd 100% opt not to get it. It's not essential. No question would I choose not to make my dog go through that for something non-essential.

As for the vet quote. I do trust my vet to take my dog into the back. I realize that some things need to be done back there and I do believe that a lot of times, the dog is better without the owner present. There are certain things where that is not the case - like when Jackson got his echocardiogram (he HATES being flipped on his back or side, he is NOT a dog who easily "surrenders" if you will) and it was way better for me to be there with him so he didn't completely wig out. I also know my vet would allow me to be with him for certain procedures if it made it easier on Jackson or benefitted him. But I do think if you are that untrusting of your vet that you worry about them handling your dog in the back inappropriately that maybe it IS time for a new vet. I don't really trust anyone with my dogs either and it's why I don't use daycares or boarding facilities but a veterinarians office is a place I really have to trust that they are doing the right thing and I don't ever question my vet in this case because I have found one that I trust.
