| I did the same thing. Right by the vet's is a McDonalds and I would always stop there for a Sausage Egg McMuffin, hash browns and coffee to go. Bring them home and choke far less than half of it down as my stomach was too knotted to really digest more than a few bites and tossed the rest! Truest form of junk for food there is but that somehow equated to how I felt about leaving my baby all alone there at the vet's about to go under anesthesia. Any time I pass that McDonald's I kind of shudder.

I'm usually one to not make a stink unless I'm discomfited by unreasonable attitudes or practices that I feel unduly infringe on me or mine. I might just make a note on that form that I will call for an update after any lengthy wait and initial and date it and tell the receptionist, "I'm CERTAIN you and doc understand as a toy dog owner, I'll be worried about the anesthesia risk until I hear from you and just have to call if the wait is extensive. You would, too, in my place. That's not unreasonable at all" and give her a pleasant, steady look in the eyes.

| It's usually wisest to abide by any medical/veterinary clinic's rules (usually made for a good reason based on past experiences) but in this case, the wait to hear about your little Yorkie was unconscionably long. You might want to be sure they understand that will never happen again. And 12 lbs. still is a very small dog but even at 112 lbs. you always have reason to check on your baby's welfare after undergoing general anesthesia and not knowing the outcome for hours. No doubt they were truly busy taking care of their patients until the evening hours but they must consider that their patients all have caring, concerned, often worried parents, waiting to exhale until they hear their baby is okay.

| When Piper and I still lived in Nevada, I took her in for a cleaning and she had to have four teeth pulled. I am sooo grateful to my vet because although Piper was pretty 'mad' at me for the rest of the day, by the end of the week I had a different dog! Piper's eyes were bright and sparkling, she bounced around like crazy and was just so very happy and HEALTHY! I'd only had her for a few months at this point, but can imagine how hurtin' and uncomfortable she had been...having experienced dental problems myself! I am pleased as punch that Piper's "brother" Cody is in excellent health from stem to stern, tip of his nose to the tip of tail. We love Cody and you, Matese! Below is Piper with about two weeks post-dental--cuter than ever I think!!! Last edited by Jkpal; 03-26-2020 at 01:36 PM. |
