| Yorkie Grieving? My mother-in-law passed away two days before Christmas. For reasons unrelated to this post, the wake and Celebration of Life weren't held until a few weeks ago. Fabian seems unusually anxious and protective of my husband. He's barking at anything that moves in our backward, not just squirrels, to the point that his throat sounds sore. (We try to divert him, but it seems that nothing short of penning him in -- which we try not to do -- will get him to stop.) We think he's feeling Darren's pain and grief. All Fabian wants to do at night is crawl on one of our laps for the evening until it's bedtime. What has your experience been with this? How can we help Fabian reduce his anxiety? (We prefer not to use CBD or Adaptil...) |

| I'm so sorry for your family's loss.. I bought Composure calming treats for Mike's separation anxiety few months ago and saw improvement within a few weeks. Also, when my boyfriend goes away on work trips for a few days Mike usually patrols the apartment at night and barks non stop at every little sound driving me crazy (he usually sleeps very well and never wakes up when everyone's home). I tried giving him these before bedtime when we recently were alone and he slept through the night for 4 nights straight. I think these treats simply help them relax, without sedation or anything like that. Maybe you can give it a try. |

| It is my experience that our little ones are amazingly able to be in touch with our emotions, and they absolutely "grieve". Our two lost their "big brother" two weeks ago, and are still more clingy than usual. They climb up into our laps anytime we sit down, and they "tap" our hand/arm to make sure that we know they want to be petted. I am sure that Fabian senses your husband's unhappiness, and he is trying to comfort him. Bless their little hearts!

| So very sorry for your family's loss, too, nanajoy. It's remarkable how many complicated and sophisticated emotions our Yorkies have in their little bodies, isn't it? He most certainly is a blessing. |

| They definitely pick up on our emotions and react accordingly and there is really no way to hide it. I’m not sure much can be done and that you will just have to wait it out. I tried the composure chews with mine and it didn’t do anything. When I used CBD oil with my oldest I think it was one of the reasons her liver numbers increased and it made my younger girl just weird. Other then prescription medicine I think your just going to have to try and wait it out.

| I am so sorry for your loss and feel certain dogs can feel the sadness in humans or feel sad themselves. I think it just takes time. Hugs.
