| out of town issues Well I want to give some back story first. I have lived with my grandparents since I was 13. It just kinda worked out best that way. Well 7 or 8 years ago my uncle bought us a house that was one story but had a loft upstairs. Well he eventually turned that into a little apartment because at some point we all knew my parents would have to move in to help. Well when my Grandfather died 4 years ago they moved in. Well my pups are always excited to see my dad their Grandpy when he comes home. When he is late they all are kinda high strung and Penny thinks every car going down the road is him and barks. Well ever since I had Joey my dad would take him upstairs to play for 45 minutes before bed. Joey will even start crying and barking at him when it gets close to time for that. Well here is the issue not this coming week but the week after my dad will be out of town doing stuff for the union he is in for at least 6 days. My dad never really leaves town like that. I am just preparing for the nightmare of trying to keep them chill and Joey not so very upset that his routine is going to be changed. Callie and Joey are very stuck on routines where as Penny and Ollie aren't. Joey also usually gets a chew while upstairs with my dad but I can't do that with all of them because it seems every chew blows Callie's IBD up and she gets diarrhea and thinks she is passing gas but she is actually passing a little bit of diarrhea at the same time. Any one have any suggestions? Prayers and good thoughts are also very much appreciated.

| That's the bad part of routines, when they are broken. I have no suggestions other then, when it's time Joey usually goes up to your dad's you do something special with him to take his mind off grandpa's not here. Just you and Joey for a 1/2 hour and give him that treat. Joey is going to put you through hell if that time is not filled in. Hopefully other members have gone through a similar situation and can offer up some suggestions. Good luck

| I would say that this would be the perfect time to try the VetriScience calming chews. As I mentioned on another thread, they do not trigger Tyrone's colitis issues. About one-half hour before they would anticipate your Dad's arrival I would give them one (or two, if needed), and play a game they enjoy to distract them. Maybe introduce a new toy? Also, I agree that special time and his usual night-time treat will help Joey. GOOD LUCK!

| Go to Dollar Tree and buy them EACH a new toy. That first night IF there is any discord, give out new toys and play with your dogs. |

| You have to be careful with the toys from there because they are made in China. I have a little strange thing I keep new toys in though. I just hate to give more toys when they just got wayyyyy to many for Christmas and at the end of the month they will be getting more for the boys birthdays. Yeah they are spoiled lol.

Ha Ha.....I so get that. Mine have toys everywhere and my 'new toy pantry' is full too! (after Holiday sales) BUT! It keeps Katy from chewing on other things....except cats, she loves to play with our cats....and if the cats want to, they CAN get away and go places she can not. But they love playing with her too. Almost every single toy for children and or animals, as well as about everything we buy IS FROM CHINA. <sighs> Sad, but true. We have those little 'laundry baskets' (also from the Dollar Tree) for the dogs toys in 3 rooms. Our dogs get out what they want and I love to see them looking in there for something in particular. | |

| Dad left at 5 pm. It is now 10 pm and everyone is calm and sleeping. Joey did not start his normal crying he does at 9 pm to my dad which is good. Right now he is curled up in my curled up legs while I’m in my comfy chair.

| Seems like things are going better than anticipated...sometimes the little buggers can really rise to the occasion and surprise you! So happy to have not seen any crisis postings, and hope that they continue to tolerate a change in routine without problems.

| Well around 11pm he does a little crying and looking up the stairs but has been easy to distract. He has refused to go upstairs with my mom so he has decide he is sleeping with my grandma. The little ones have to sleep up stairs with my parents because Callie has to have access to go outside and get water during the night due to her Cushings and that gives her free run of the house. Penny and Ollie just aren’t trustworthy for that yet. Joey usually goes to bed with my dad. My dad is not a fan of dogs on the bed. Well my aunt is staying here for 2 weeks and she will go get him from his bed and put him between her and my grandma and we are hoping this doesn’t cause him to get in bed with my dad and get in trouble. He is still heating and everything so he is doing ok. It’s not been a good week here though. My Godmother died suddenly Monday and Wednesday I got word that one of my aunts can not eat and will be going into hospice.

| Very sorry for the loss of your Godmother and now your aunt being so sick. At least Joey isn't going ballistic missing his scheduled play and treat time with your dad. I don't know what's going on with Cody. He eats dinner at 4PM, he starts bothering me at 2:30 lol, I tell him it's not time, you have to wait. This has worked for 6 years, he always settled down and every 1/2 hour he starts again. Now he is relentless, by 3 I can't take the whining anymore so now at 3 I give him 1/2 his kibble and 4 he gets the rest, he is slowly trying to schedule his dinner at 3 but that ain't gonna happen lol. When these pups want what they want they are relentless and will not give up until you give in lol.
