| Added Yorkie Puppy to Family, 2 yr old Yorkie Sad Friends, We added a yorkie puppy to our family yesterday and our 2 yr old yorkie is not happy. She won't eat. She snaps at the puppy when it tries to play with her. I feel terrible and do not know how to help her adjust and be welcoming. We really thought she was going to be excited about the new puppy. Any advice? |

| Congrats on your new baby It takes time for your 2 yo to adjust to the new wild child. Do not force a friendship between the two of them. Let your older one go to the puppy on her terms, her time. It's perfectly normal for an only fur baby to reject a new kid but she will accept the puppy in time, it could be as long as 6 weeks to 2 months before your older one will stay on the floor and even play with the new baby. Make your older one first for everything, first to have her food plate set down, first to get a treat, first to be pet when you return home. Have a safe haven for your older girl to get away from the nippy baby. Don't worry about your older one not eating, a dog will not starve it's self because she is not happy, she will eat, she's just pouting. You will see, in time they will be BFF, it just takes time.

| You have to give it time. It is not going to happen over night. It took my dog and cat several months before they became friends but now that they are, they are both getting on my nerves.......lol To ease the transition, you have to make sure that you give every thing to your 2 yr old yorkie first. It could take awhile before your older yorkie accepts the younger yorkie. Just make sure the older yorkie has a place to escape the younger one and remember no matter what you do, you have to do it to the older yorkie first. They are pack animals and your older yorkie needs to know that he is higher in the pecking order than the younger one. Last edited by yavenay; 05-08-2019 at 10:24 AM. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I also recently added a puppy to my pack of 3 and at first they were not happy either. However, it’s been almost 2 weeks and they are adjusting. I let them correct the puppy’s misbehavior (biting tails and ears) and they are able to get away when they want to their own little area. It is slow but good progress. I think you’ll be fine over time. |

| Thank you! We are making progress! Tyla (our 2 yr old) has started to do just as you say your babies are doing -- correcting the puppy gently and now the pup is following her around and Tyla is walking tall I took next week off of work so we could focus on our routine and making adjustments to having the little one as part of our family. |

| This is good news, Tyla is teaching the puppy that hard biting or rough playing is not acceptable, they will figure it out between the two of them, the puppy will learn fast. If you have to leave the house do not leave the two of them together unsupervised, either crate the baby of put them in separate rooms. Until they are BFF never leave them together unsupervised, these puppies are crazy wild lil imps. they are just learning about life, they have no idea what is right or wrong behavior, always make sure you are there when they are together.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I’m glad it’s beginning to work out. Soon they will be great friends and Tyla will wonder why you didn’t get her a friend sooner. I definitely agree with Matese about keeping them separated when you can’t supervise until they are getting along well and the puppy is a little bigger. Even when they get along well, tiny puppies can get hurt during play time. |
