| Is your yorkie - family or people friendly? I just saw an article on the friendliest dogs on the I love dogs site. Needless to say, yorkies was no where to be found on the top ten list. Dexter has never been around kids or people much. He’s really protective of us should someone come visit us. What’s your experience? Have you raised kids with your yorkie? Do you entertain often with people over? Anyone??

| My husband & I are retired so we don't go out much. We have very little family around us, just 1 son & dil. Muffin is 8 months old now and from the very beginning, 12 wks, she is friendly and excited to meet new people. She loves everybody which kinda scares me because she could be picked up by anyone and carried away forever. But on the other hand, if she ever gets out anybody can pick her up and bring her back but I don't see that happening either. She is chipped and she wears orange collar with name & cell# embroidered but I don't think anyone would turn her in. So many people say that want a Yorkie when they see her so I fear dognappers. LOL Sometimes I wish she was more aggressive but she is just the sweetest little bitty baby anyone would want. I hear people all around me say "If you ever need a dog sitter..." OMGoodness, I don't know how I'd take it if she was lost from me. I feel so blessed to be owned by all 4 lbs of her. Last edited by LaVcaM; 11-20-2017 at 11:47 PM. |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I made an effort to get mine to like people. I wanted them to be therapy dogs and visit people in the hospital. As puppies, everybody picked them up and they met lots of strangers. The result? They are good with people, not necessarily the best. They run right up to people who want to meet them, but they usually say hi and want to move on. They’re not great smugglers with strangers. So while i’m happy with how they’ve turned out, I can see why they are not rated higher on the list you cite.

| Mine are all very friendly to kids, adults and other dogs. They really really really love other people. I try to make sure they are exposed a lot to other people and dogs when they are young. My aunt and uncles dog hates everything and everyone and poor Penny just wanted to be friends and she snapped at Penny and you would have thought you took Penny’s favorite toy away she was so sad. When they are puppies and young I try to do many things to correct bad behavior and prevent it like I mess with them when they are eating or chewing on a toy, I gently take toys and chews, and always praise when they excitedly greet any dogs or humans. I also take them to lots of pet events.

| I have been trying to figure out my Otto's personality since we got him (4 months ago). He is super cuddly and friendly when in the house, he is just all love for anyone. Also he loves his former owner (breeder), his groomer and my sister in law. Outside this circle is all over the place! Sometimes we go out for a walk and he doesnt mind my neighbors or the kids playing in the park (always the same kids so he knows them). They all want to approach him and he usually is kind of shy about them. However the other half of the time he is on attack mode, barking and trying to chase everyone. He hates skateboards and barks at them. He doesnt allow my son to get on the skateboard. As much as he sometimes barks angrily at strangers (our security guard is afraid of our 9 pound yorkie), and of course other male dogs which he hates (except his brother who he loves), I have verified that his intentions are not to bite. I have tested this letting him run angrily towards friends (who volunteer for this) and he actually stops short of them and stops barking and begins to sniff them. His heart just doesnt allow him to hurt anyone. |

| I rescued my kid when he was 2 1/2 years old, he was a surrender, loved much and spoiled rotten, but, he was never socialized with other dogs. He loves ppl mainly women because they fuss over him lol, he especially loves, loves little girls because he was raised by an 8 yo girl. Dogs, well that's when he turns into Cujo.

| Scottie and super paranoid at anyone and anything he's unfamiliar with. It's always stranger danger! But only once he knows-knows you, then he's loyal forever (that goes for any family / friends he's met). Casie is totally a people-friendly Yorkie. She will give kisses to random strangers, no problem.

| Jackson is good in certain ways. He's never ever been aggressive or snappy. Like he will bark at strangers coming in the house but once he knows you, and sees you are good with me, then he is good with you. In public? He's like indifferent. He prefers to just walk by people. He doesn't bark, he just doesn't care lol. If someone wants to pet him, I say "go say hi" and he usually will and accept a pat on the head but then he's done and could care less. He wouldn't be a good therapy dog lol. He'd be a great service dog though since he ignores people and distractions. LOL I honestly think he likes kids better than adults. Because they're always dropping food. He's grown up with my little sister and they are so close. She is now almost 10, he just turned 9. Also my little brother who is now 13.

| Emma is nervous around new situations so it takes her a minute to warm to new people. She is friendly and not aggressive but just not all let me play with everyone kind of dog. She recognizes which kids are appropriate but she's not one for the rough and tumble kind of play. She's not a snuggler either but if you're sitting down on the sofa she'll come sit with you or warm your lap but just don't expect a hug from her.

| Penny loves everyone and I mean everyone! She hasn't ever met someone she didn't want to pet her and even though we have no small children in our family, she automatically knows how to interact with them |

| Fabian is extremely friendly and sees everyone as a potential playdate. That said, we have worked extremely hard to socialize him in large, crowded spaces (and with people of all ages and sizes) since we brought him home. |
