| All My Puppy WANTS TO DO IS:BITE / HELP My yorkie-poo puppy is 10 weeks old now and full of energy. He has start really wanting to bite now which I know is due to teething. How do you start preventing him from doing this?? I have tried giving him toys, teething toys and it seems not to work. Any ideas that you have done that was successful, please let me know any secrets!!! |

| Well he was taken from his mom to early and she would have taught him about biting. He should have been with his mom until 12 weeks. You can say a firm no and put a chew toy in his mouth or if that dosent would you could put him in a play pen until he settles down. Make sure no one is using their hands to play and just toys.

Some pups just like to chew on humans and we're continuing to work on this with any and all toys or dog chews that I can find. She is now 8 months old and still tries to play-bite my fingers and we are still working on it. Good luck, TrishB13. Let me know if you find out how to get them over this, I will continue to follow this thread. Last edited by LaVcaM; 10-28-2017 at 07:28 PM. | |

| Muffin's dame was in the pen with her & her siblings when I picked her up. And yes, she luvs to play-bite. I try not to make a game of it because I know how it can get out of hand. And I don't want her to use her teeth on any humans, especially children. Like I said, we're still working on this issue and I'm sure it will pass. She doesn't break the skin or snap in anger, just plays and rolls on her back while she does it. LOL She's too cute! Trishb13: just keep putting toys in her mouth or chew yummies when she tries to play that game. This too shall pass even tho it may seem to take a long time, I believe it's something they will grow out of. I also forgot to mention that I gave Muffin a wet washrag to chew when she was teething and that seemed to help, she luved it. Last edited by LaVcaM; 10-29-2017 at 06:36 PM. |

| We took our Zuzi home when she was 8 weeks old. And like every little dog baby she would love to chew and bite everything that comes in front of her eyes. I had many other dogs before and I knew that it is completely normal for her age but I had to take immediate actions in order to prevent that she takes that as normal and continue doing that over the time. So first thing you need to know is that until the baby teeth are not gone it is almost impossible to stop her chewing everything including your hands, legs and fingers. I know it hurts because their baby teeth are really sharp. So from the very beginning when we were going to play I always had her favourite toy in one of my hands. In the moment she starts to bit my fingers I would say "No" and put the toy in front of her. As soon as she replace my fingers with the toy and start biting it I would say " Good girl" and give her a hug or a treat. If you see her chewing the furniture or your slippers, you must say "No" immediately and give him a toy. You need to understand that this behavior can not be changed quickly. Sometimes it takes weeks and months. But if you are consistent and follow the right steps, you will see that she will replace your fingers only with her toys. Good luck! |
