| Teeth Cleaning Hi, Mia is 1 1/2 year old and HATES having her teeth brushed or anything done in her mouth. I saw a product called True Dog Spray Me that has real good reviews, I thought I'd ask if anyone here has tried it and what you think about it. My last Yorkie had terrible teeth problems and I don't want to go through that again. Thanks Larry |

| Some Yorkies (or dogs in general) will have genetically bad teeth no matter what you do and some need professional cleanings once a year. However - it's definitely a great idea to keep up with them to prevent decay and tarter as much as possible. I've never heard of that spray but I like Petzlife as well as HealthyMouth (this is approved by the VOHC - veterinary oral health council). I also like Proden Plaque Off and Vetrscience Perio powder. CET toothpaste is my fav for Jackson.

| I wouldn’t use it because there is Alcohol. I would brush with CET or petslife, stuff that’s proven to work. Genetics are going to play the biggest roll though and dentals done by the vet will still be needed.

| I've used Oravet chews in the past, that I would get from the vets. It's got good reviews and when my little fur-brat actually decides to eat one, it does help her breath lots. it's supposedly also coats the teeth to help prevent plague from sticking to them. My only problem is my little girl is normally a picky girl, she'll eat it a few times at first then snub her nose at it. the last one I gave her was left alone for a couple of weeks and she only ate it when i stopped giving her her other treats :P (she's on a diet).

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ALL pets are going to need dental care - under anesthesia - it's just a fact of caring for our pets over their lifetime. Dental issues are more a matter of genetics than anything else too, btw.

| Having dentals under anesthesia is part of providing general health care for our furkids. I have used Petzlife with some success for general daily oral care. You can work with Mia and in time she will learn to accept some daily brushing, gum massage, etc. to help with oral care between cleanings. |

| You might try the PetSmile toothpaste (VOHC approved). My Cali loves the taste and some times I just rub it on her teeth instead of using a brush And she loves it. She will also just lick it off of my fingers. I have to have her dentals done every 6months due to her perpetual nNsty mouth but with Petsmile and the dentals we do really well. Check the VOHC webpage for approved dental products for your pup.
