| 9 year old Yorkie throwing up kibble Mr. Darcy is showing typical ageing signs but still a playful, cheerful boy. I purchase his kibble from Chewy.com. Until recently he was on Fromm Small Breed No Grain Adult kibble, but Chewy can't get that now. I then chose Wellness Core Grain Free Small Breed. 2 weeks ago he started throwing up the kibble. I put him on a bland rice & chicken broth diet & have slowly worked the Wellness back into his 4 to 5 meal a day feedings (aprox one half cup crushed up kibble total per day). Today a bit of coughing but no throw up. Lots of fresh water, no treats just now no chews or snacks. Total indoor pet & strict supervision when out. Poop looks normal, not runny, no blood, normal odor & look at for bugs or worms. Nothing. Is it the kibble causing this? Should I just go out & buy the Fromm from somewhere else? Age? When does throwing up demand a trip to his vet?

| If he had no problems with the Froom I would go get that for him what ever the cost.

| I have to agree with buddybear, go back to the Fromm if he was doing well on that. Never put a price on your pups health.

| It could be. Our little Seymour can't do some grain free foods. Way to rich for his little belly. So we went back to the Basics. (Dry Blue Buffalo Basics. Turkey and potato.) We tried Fromm for a little while, but he just didn't do well with it (the other 2 were fine). Every dog is different.

| I would first go back to the old food and see if he is still having issues. If he is throwing up multiple times a day it is time to head to the vet.

YT 2000 Club Member | Dog food I read where wellness has some inconsistencies in their food. I used to use that food but I just don't trust that company anymore. It's hard to find a good trustworthy company. Fromm was too rich for my yorkies. What do you yorkie lovers recommend? I may go back to royal canin. Grain free is not for every dog. |

| If he isn't vomiting now, I would go back to what he is used to...the Fromms. No more vomiting...problem solved; but, one episode of vomiting of the Fromm and I would go to the vet and have tests run.

| But, let me add this: my Teddy Bear at the age of 8 was diagnosed with a liver shunt. Prior to that he did have some occasional vomiting of his kibble. It wasn't consistent enough to think it was a major problem....and all of the years I had him (7) he had had yearly blood work and dentals done. He suddenly became ill one night...had bladder stones. The surgeon suspected they were urates so she did an exploration while in there and found a liver shunt!! He had NEVER had any alterations in blood work and never had symptoms.....although looking back, the vomiting probably was a clue. It cannot ever hurt to have bile acid testing done on these pups when they have weird stuff going on. It is a relatively cheap test. Adult yorkies CAN have liver shunts with no symptoms...it all comes down to how much blood flow is going through the liver. Anyone interested can read about Teddy's liver shunt here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ver-shunt.html
