Default 9 year old Yorkie throwing up kibble

Mr. Darcy is showing typical ageing signs but still a playful, cheerful boy. I purchase his kibble from Chewy.com. Until recently he was on Fromm Small Breed No Grain Adult kibble, but Chewy can't get that now. I then chose Wellness Core Grain Free Small Breed.
2 weeks ago he started throwing up the kibble. I put him on a bland rice & chicken broth diet & have slowly worked the Wellness back into his 4 to 5 meal a day feedings (aprox one half cup crushed up kibble total per day).
Today a bit of coughing but no throw up. Lots of fresh water, no treats just now no chews or snacks. Total indoor pet & strict supervision when out.
Poop looks normal, not runny, no blood, normal odor & look at for bugs or worms. Nothing.
Is it the kibble causing this? Should I just go out & buy the Fromm from somewhere else? Age? When does throwing up demand a trip to his vet?
