Pedigreed AKC puppies set the standard by which we judge a breed. If I planned to show or breed, I would only purchase an AKC show quality puppy. My reason for posting a response was curiosity related to info I found about the original Yorkie, "red legged" or "wiry hair". They do not meet today's breed standard...a larger dog with a long snout and a wiry, textured, short, deep black and red coat that does not change colors. And the fact that these original characteristics can show up in a litter of AKC, CKC, etc. breed standard Yorkie parents. I also read that breeders sometime introduce the red legged Yorkie to their line to strengthen the line's coat texture and colors. However, that should be the only time these red legged Yorkies should be bred. Like the author of this thread, MoYra, I would love to communicate with other members that have or know about red legged or wiry pure bread Yorkies. What I do know, our puppies, at this 8 month stage do not follow the breed standard and do not look like their conforming breed standard parents, yet have a quality overall look. Thank you for your comments, I truly would like to learn more! | |

| Do you love them? Do you care them? Do you show them? You do not believe that they all deserves a chance? Registered or not, wiry silky or cottony, teacup or teapot, beautiful or just nice( as i dont believe i have seen in 50 years an ugly dog) they are all our little devoted babies.. Talking just about love for "animals" in general ,for me it doesn t matter none on these I just want to be sorrounded by healthy and happy animals wich fill my days with joy and happiness.

| I am sorry that your first Yorkie had health issues. I have only had positive experiences with the home breeders, I know. Our first Yorkie followed the AKC standard and was CKC. She passed away last year right before her 18th birthday. She was healthy and acted like a puppy even though she became blind and deaf around her 15th year. The same for our CKC lab, who also passed away last year. She was 16 yr old with no health issues throughout her happy life. I absolutely support breeding healthy and breed specific. I showed in Obedience, my AKC sheepdogs, for years. I have purchased and rescued many dogs in my 73 years...AKC, CKC, and NO registration, We were blessed that all our loved dogs lived long, healthy lives. I anticipate the same for these two CKC puppies. Last edited by janicecue; 04-06-2017 at 05:37 AM. |

| I don't think any of the Yorkie Talk members support bad breeders, whether AKC or not. Same goes for puppy mills and pet shops. I support adopting a dog from a shelter to save a life, as well. |

| See that's the thing in the US you will not find a reputable breeder that doesn't use the AKC because it is the only reputable registry in the US. Most people don't know better. Reputable breeders are very hard to find.
