| ![]() Callie is almost 10 so this was a long time ago. I was 18 and living with my grandparents and had grown up with dogs at home and just hated not having one. My grandmother has COPD so we needed a small dog that didn't shead much or at all and we landed on a yorkie. Callie is extremely smart and that helped me fall in love with them even more.

| ![]() I had always wanted a Yorkie for some reason, I just thought they looked lovely and I really liked their small size. My first dog, Trixie, was a Yorkie mix and was given to me by a work collegue. I hadn't planned to get a dog because I was working full time. Anyway, she lasted 14 years and I missed her so much that my husband turned up with another Yorkie, Jake, three weeks later. Lucy came along last year by coincidence when I came across her on one of my walks, always sitting in the front garden of a house, she was terribly neglected, full of knots and filthy. I offered to buy her and she was given to me instead! |

| ![]() I needed something that was small enough to take along and wasn't going to be a too big in an apartment. That is the main reason I got a second yorkie after the first died. I do miss a bigger dog at times but for my lifestyle a yorkie works. Non-shedding for my allergies helps also.

| ![]() Yorkies are like potato chips, "ya can't have just one" lol. I once had a pack of 3, all unplanned lol, I am very weak around puppies with those sweet lil eyes begging to be taken home. I stay away from puppies these days lol. ![]()

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | ![]() Originally, my wife brought one home. As much as I was always a Lab guy, we'd talked and decided she could get any dog she wanted. She did the research and decided on a Yorkie, which I'd never even heard of. Not 2 weeks later, a friend said she had to get rid of her Yorkie puppy because of an allergy. Eddie came into our lives. He was followed later by Jack, a senior rescue, and now Jillie. Flash forward 12 years, and I don't see myself owning any other breed. For a 60 year old man, they really fit my lifestyle. They're wicked smart and teachable, satisfying all my needs to have a smart dog that I don't have to apologize for. They have a lot of energy, so it gets me off my butt to go on walks. But, being small, they don't need to run 7 miles a day to get tired. A couple half-hour walks, and we're done. Fits my lifestyle. Small dogs can be more socially acceptable, too. You wouldn't bring 2 rambunctious border collies over to a friend's house for dinner, but we're frequently asked to bring the Yorkies with us. I'm leery of kennels, but I've always had good luck finding house sitters who don't mind hanging out with our Yorkies.

| ![]() I definitely never expected I'd end up with two! Initially, it was a tossup between getting a Yorkie or a Maltese. My previous was a Maltese who was incredibly special to me, so I decided to go with a different breed this time. Boy am I glad I did! Also, I was deciding between the two breeds because I wanted a dog around 6 to 7 pounds that's hypo-allergenic, as I'm allergic to most dogs. Most importantly, I think a major selling point was reading on YT all about Yorkies' spunky yet super sweet personalities. ![]()

| ![]() I raised two beautiful, highly intelligent German Shepherds. I waited 12 yrs before considering another canine and after researching breeds, I knew I definitely did not want a Yorkie. And then I saw a picture of this Yorkie, made inquiry phone call, still hesitated, finally decided last minute to drive out just to see the dog. I took one look, handed over a bit of cash, and voila, she was in my arms. Lady told me there had been, like, thirty people wanting the dog, but she just felt they'd just use the dog or turn right around and sell her for more money. Lady said she knew I was in it for love. Then as I fought not to cry, I told lady to please know that this little dog would be with me always, cared for in every way, and would be loved more than anything. Got in card, drove off...briefly freaked cuz I looked around and didn't see any canine--cuz she was laying between armrest and my leg--I didn't know from such a tiny little thing. She looked up at me, I looked into that face and said, "You know who are? You're Piper! Absolutely, you're Piper." And so it began--love for a Yorkie is a love like no other...wouldn't trade it for this or any other world. Piper then and now... |

| ![]() My neighbor and I went to a local furniture auction. We thought it would be fun. She was retired and just lost her dog to old age. She was hurting, so I thought this would cheer her up. We happened to see a small yorkie with her owner at the auction. We decided to look for sibling yorkies, so they could grow up next door to each other. That was 2008. Ally is now 8 years old and I adore her. Yes...she does no wrong! lol I had an elderly Pek at the time and I knew Ally would need a playmate when my Pek passed away, so yorkie #2 was adopted! Yep...I now have an 8 year old, 7 year old, and a 4 year old. I've had a lot of pets, to include all breeds of dogs growing up, big and small. There is no comparison to this breed. Love them with all my heart! Words just can't express it! |

| ![]() I've had dogs my entire life. But I went 8 years without one because our schedule would have meant we would have to leave him/her at home alone for up to 12 hours Mon- Fri. I didn't want to do that so I suffered without one. Toni always wanted a yorkie. When I 1st met her she had a pink purse and a pink collar with the name Sasha on it. Her boss told her one day that if she got her yorkie she could bring her into work every day. That sealed the deal. The only issue was that the 1st one we got was a boy so the pink purse and collar weren't going to work! But she took Max to work every day for about 8 months and all was well. Until the landlord of the business complex she was in got wind of it and sent a letter to all businesses saying "NO DOGS". We did not want to leave him alone at home so we went and got his sister, who we of course named Sasha, from the next litter to keep him company. She was finally able to use the pink collar and bag! Until I switched jobs about 16 months ago I took them both to my office every Friday. They loved it and so did the people I worked with. I have to admit when we 1st decided to go ahead and get a dog I wanted to get a German Shepherd. I like to tell people that she wanted a yorkie and I wanted a Shepherd so we did what all couples do - we compromised - and got 2 yorkies! But honestly I don't think I'll ever have anything but a yorkie for the rest of my life.

| ![]() I had a toy poodle and a border collie/shepherd cross at different times in my childhood. Knowing that those would be too heavy for me to take care of at this point in my life, I was taken by the smaller size of yorkies ![]() ![]() ![]() |
