| Dog sharing Does anyone have any experience of dog sharing? I have the opportunity to have another Yorkie for 5 days and return him for 2 ( each week) . Was really hoping to buy another one to go with Jack, but it would be easier to adopt a child! Don't want a puppy but there is someone who has no time for her dog due to work committments. She's. upset at selling him so I suggested a dog share, although I can see the future potential problems ! Just wondered if anyone had been there? |

| If both dogs get along I think that would be an awesome arrangement. Think of it as putting your dog in daycare fulltime. I think it would be harder on the person only having him 2 days. I couldn't do that. However, if you are sharing the dog make sure you work out the details of cost and who will be covering what items. Also any Vet aissuesnd just make sure you are in sync with everything. It might be a lot like children of divorced parents.

| Seriously, get that stuff in writing. He could come to you having just ingested chocolate or something poisonous, or break his leg in your care or run away- I think you guys have some important details about responsibility and liability to get really clearly defined on paper. Otherwise, that actually sounds pretty awesome.

| Yes, I'd establish who owns the dog as (to me) that individual would take on the responsibility of vet and other expenses. But from your post, I'm thinking you're going to be sole owner of that baby before too long! How fun!! |

| Brilliant tips and comments , thank you so much. Very sensible to get it all in writing, would prefer to own him outright, but the owner can't bear to let him go, so may have to settle for sharing! At the moment he is left alone all day which is horrible for him, and with us we are home all day and Jack and the other dog will both have company. He will still be her dog and she should be paying for him, therefore, and i will be caring for him for her. Just hope she doesn't move away or something or that will be heartbreak for us! I suppose it's like our children, we don't own them, we "borrow " them because they are their own people. |

| I think it would be very hard and confusing on the dog.

| I feel devastated for the owner to have to give up her baby, this arrangement would be PERFECT for her. Yes, do make sure you get in writing she will be responsible for ALL medical attention and medical bills. This is an awesome thing you are doing for HER, and gives your Jack a buddy to play with, but, I will tell you this, when this lil guy goes back to momma for the two days expect little Jack to be sad and missing his little friend. I have to agree with Taylor (Lovetodream88) it could hard and confusing to BOTH dogs. Ya know, you could be stating a new fad here lol. Lots of luck.

| Well you are a stranger offering to "share a dog" how does SHE know you won't take off with HER dog that she is considering selling. I can understand her hedging. Just like you are doing "seeking" information, she is more then likely doing the same and getting negative fed back. It works out well for HER, she wouldn't have to sell her baby, she is free 5 days, it's like her baby going to day camp, having a good time, being cared for, it's all FREE for HER. In any case, good luck.

I would not want to have an arrangement like this.

| I for one am glad that the current owner at least realized how important it is for these little guys to have companionship and to be around other dogs. I applaud you both if this is something that you will be able to work out!

| Dog share I too can imagine problems arising, practical and emotional. Don't even know if the owner has a car to share the driving and delivering! Sent her an e mail tonight and asked her to phone me before I go in the morning, and still heard nothing. Will not travel there without hearing from her first. I seem to be doing all the running, and don't know how serious this lady is. Shall soon find out in the morning! I love all your dogs, so beautiful Pauline and Jack |
