| Products That Prevent Matting I brush both of my Yorkies every day. They both have a puppy cut. One of them never has mats but the other one ALWAYS does even with me brushing every day. Every time I take his harness off he has mats under his armpits and on his chest/belly. I've used a variety of different harnesses - top paw, puppia, Susan Lanci, buddy belt and more. After he runs around playing with my other Yorkie, he gets mats. After I give him a bath, dry him and brush him, he has mats. He has very, very fine hair so it gets knotted easily. It feels like every time o get one out another one appears. Does anyone know of a good detangler or some other product to PREVENT hair from matting that I can use on him daily? I did buy a detangler from petsmart and it isn't really helping. |

| I don't have an answer for you. Except maybe to try one of the really good conditioners and leave it in for 10 min? I need to order some of the C.C. stuff myself. I have a question though about puppy coats... Mr. Loki is losing some of his puppy coat, its this super fine stuff. He is changing color on his head and its very shiny and silky. His belly and back are not quite there. I can brush his back and part of his legs, and sometimes when he is really really lazy I can comb out a bit of his belly. But it mats. Like mad. I can use some blunt scissors and just trim that area right?? I don't want him to hate being brushed! |

| Try to use virgin coconut oil! Search for some benefits on google and you will be amazed on how it works on dogs. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I have one like yours too - and I have tried *everything*; I've also asked the exact same question as to whether there is a prevention product. I don't know of one. It's just all about prevention by brushing daily.

| Fauna, do you give it to them orally? Or apply it to their coats? If orally, how much do you give? He is only 3 pounds. I just read the recommended dose is 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds but would less than that do anything? Also, is it fattening? He is tiny and is a stocky 3 pounds. I just want to make sure he doesn't become overweight because he has very thin legs (my last Yorkie was about 2-3 lbs overweight with thin legs and ended up limping because of the extra weight's impact on his knees). |

| Trewltwisted, I've used some thinning shears to cut out very bad mats. I'm no grooming expert but I would rather just cut it than pulling at their skin and hurting them if it's a very bad one that's almost impossible to get out. I'm lucky in a way that mine is very good and just sits there and let's me try to get them out. Thank God my other one doesn't mat because he would never sit still that long! | Have you tried Cowboy Magic for the matting issue. The serum/detangler. My Cali does not mat, but I love the shine this gives.

| When Teddy still had puppy coat problems (tendency to tangle), I used Pet Silk silk serum on him. A little dab worked through his full coat helped prevent tangling. Jenny, YT member Mimimomo sells it on her site http://www.toplinepet.com You can find the silk serum toward the bottom of the page here: http://https://www.toplinepet.com/pet-silk.php Jenny is awesome and has lots of great grooming products. Good conditions too that will help keep the tangles at bay.
