Trewltwisted, I've used some thinning shears to cut out very bad mats. I'm no grooming expert but I would rather just cut it than pulling at their skin and hurting them if it's a very bad one that's almost impossible to get out. I'm lucky in a way that mine is very good and just sits there and let's me try to get them out. Thank God my other one doesn't mat because he would never sit still that long!
