Yorkie fever?

Ok. So I have had my Loki for 3 weeks I think...and I have a Maltese and a Lhasa and I did not have this problem after I got them. I am pleasantly surprised at how getting another dog has completely changed the dynamic, they are more like a pack now. I'm home all day, no kids at home (they all grew up, the nerve!!) so I get to enjoy them a lot.

I want another yorkie. Is this a common uhh affliction?? I'm thinking a little girl.

Seriously curious if this has happened to a lot of yorkie owners?

Hello Sound's were both the same I also have many dogs in my life because i do love dogs I think there's no problem about that as long as you know your responsibilities to them.

I had a pack of 3 yorkies, all girls, all 3 years apart, they are now all passed. I have my one rescue boy, feels odd having only ONE baby lol , Cody DEMANDS all my attention reason why he is an only child lol. Think of the possible medical cost as they age, if you can afford it I say....go for it. Yorkies are addictive lol.

I have the same issue. I just keep saying to myself I live in a small apartment and keep reminding myself of all the costs associated with another Yorkie. If cost wasn't an issue I would definitely get another yorkie.

oh how I have wanted Lilah to have a yorkie sister forever! MY plan was when she was one but now she is three and a half and it hasn't happened. Turned out my family wanted their very own big dog (what?!? Their canine love void is not filled by me having a doting sweet devoted porcelain princess who follows my every move and can't wrestle? You're kidding!?!) and we have a sweet lab puppy in our family who I enjoy but am honestly grieving a bit that the energy I am putting into him has been in my heart waiting for a yorkie. Of course now that they have their big cuddly retriever I officially have a license to get another yorkie next year right?....

About how old were your Yorkies when they passed? We took in a little guy last year thinking he was 7 years old and he was almost 9. He's 9 now. He had a bladder stone and has bad teeth. One problem at a time is all we can afford. It's summer and he just developed leather ear on both ears in a bad way. So I am working on getting rid of it. It looks like it's getting better. I was just curious what age we can expect him to go. I am hoping it's more than a year. But you've had enough to know what age they really do pass away at.

ALL my puppies I had when they were just 8 weeks old, so they were not rescues. My first two girls I did not have spayed, BIG mistake, they were so tiny, just wee lil babies, the thought of putting them "under the knife" horrified me, my 3rd baby I bite the bullet put my fears behind me and had HER spayed at 6 months, ok'd by my vet. My first girl was 14 yo when she passed, she got Pyometra MY FAULT FOR NOT HAVING HER SPAYED. My second un-spayed girl at age 10 yo also got Pyometra and passed away,AGAIN MY FAULT. The baby passed at 13 yo, kidney failure. When the two older ones passed the baby who was the 6 yo grieved for 7 months, I HAD to get her a BFF. That girl was 17 yo when she passed, so it is hard to estimate how old they will live to be. I would say it all depends on the health of the dog in general. My last girl had Cushing disease for appox. 7 years, she was on meds for those 7 years, you would never know that girl had a serious illness, she was a LARGE yorkie weighed in at 17 lbs. lived to be 17 yo. I now have my rescue boy, he was 2.5 yo when I got him, he is with me 2.5 years now making him 5 yo. He is healthy, has allergy's which is something new to me, my passed girls never had this. Feed your baby a good quality food, if you see he is not acting normal, not eating or drinking water, take him to the vet. Take him for his yearly physicals and keep him updated with his vaccines. I wish you many more years with your baby.

Live n learn huh! I was super scared to have Casie spayed as well because she was so tiny at 8 months, but I asked my vet a thousand questions (even requested that they put a towel on the surgery table and not stretch her legs too much because I read that otherwise, they may develop incontinence issues - vet must have thought I was crazy!). Even for Scottie I had felt so much regret after neutering him - it was a strange feeling of knowing I 'did the right thing' but still feeling horrible about it at that time.

Matese, that is so sad to hear that your third girl grieved for 7 months!! Poor baby girl! I've only had one previous dog, and she was a pet store dog, purchased in the early 90s as a family pet (before the time of the internet where I had no idea what puppy mills were); she was around 7 lbs during her peak time, surprisingly lived to 19 years and was raised with not-so-high-quality dog food. I myself grieved for a good 3 years, crying each time at the thought of her...(love u always my little Bibi) .

By the time I was ready for a new dog, I came here and have learned so much about the Yorkie breed on this forum (really, thank you to all the experienced members here!!). I made sure to get a good breeder, feed high quality food, etc etc. With all the 'homework' I've done, I can only wish that both Scottie and Casie will live until 15 years+! I guess there really is no guarantees, but we just have to do what we can to make sure they're healthy! When I first got Casie, I wondered how sad she would be if the day came and Scottie had to leave us. OHmygosh I can't bear the thought of that now. Scottie's my boy! He's my sweet sweet sweet boy! Love him so much sometimes it hurts! He's never leaving me, nope!

You're babies are simply GORGEOUS, my little grieving girl was was my lil clown and to see her depressed, over losing two sisters 6 months apart was heart breaking. I gave her 6 months to adjust, it never happened, when I bought home the new kid, she was bigger at 8 weeks old then my 6 yo was lol, but, my 6 yo it was LOVE at first sight. She bonded with that baby no sooner then the puppy's paws hit the floor. She was soooo lonely. She was always "the baby" now she was "the momma" they were inseparable. They were a beautiful pair to watch.

Thank you!! I always think they are too, but I know my opinion is always biased...

Aw...that is so sweet. How they bonded makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside Lil clown needs her buddies! She must be a social little butterfly!
