YT 500 Club Member | Anaplasmosis Has any ones dog been diagnosed with this. It is bacteria in the system caused by a tick bite. He has to be on doxycyclone for a month. I have tried for a 1/2 hour to get the pill in his mouth and he keeps spitting it out. It is one of those capsual pills so it is impossible!! |

| I don't personally have experience with this, but my dear friend's dogs have gotten this in the past. They respond right away to the doxycycline if they don't have the disease for a long time. I would try cream cheese or peanut butter to hide the pill. If that doesn't work, a small amount of melted cheese wrapped around the pill should work. I hope Your pup gets better very soon.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Try peanut butter or a piece of cheese. Or, get some wet food and hide it in there.

Some dogs are almost impossible to get a pill into. I have been there! I always try to hide it in something tasty first to avoid the hassle, but - sigh - I have one that is a master at pill spitting. With anaplasmosis it is important to get every dose of medication in, as it can lead to much worse complications if not completely resolved. Have you tried a "Dog Piller?" They do work! Here is a link to one on Amazon just so you can see what they look like, but you can pick them up locally at PetSmart or Petco. https://www.amazon.com/Kruuse-Buster...rds=pet+piller Diana | |

| I'm not sure if it is true for dogs, but my hubs is on doxy for rocky mountain spotted fever and you cannot have dairy within 2 hours of taking doxy because the med will lose it's effectiveness. It's been a nightmare with hubs also. I have to watch him like a hawk to make sure he doesn't drink milk or eat dairy. I finally googled it and let him see that 25% of people without meds die with RMSF. So, I would put the treat in something other than cheese. Nothing dairy.
